Check out this story, Tyler.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Shut down an Aegis? Really?

Can you shed some light on it? I find it really hard to believe.

Edit: a little more looking, and nope.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Not sure I trust either source, but that second one seems more plausible.

That looks to be a biased site based on the rest of the articles. But assuming what this article says is true, the AEGIS ship turned off its radar so that the Su-24 wouldn't pick up any signals from the radar. Preventing electronic spying, basically.

I found sentences about sailors asking to be relieved of active duty hard to believe. I'm in the Navy, I've sailed with an independently deployed for a month in the Spratly and Paracel islands. I can't imagine 25 of those sailors giving up because of a scare. The Chinese would buzz those ships quite often. I could always be proved wrong, but I definitely need some more documentation.

12 simulated attack runs? I don't think so. The time it would take to plan the ingress and egress of each flight would take up so much time. As soon as our wing running CAP got wind of it they'd shoo them away or there would have been an "incident".

Time to add a new "home on jam" mode on those Standards then.

Liek OMG! We're in the most advanced missile destroyer that money can buy and we just got buzzed by a 45 year old attack jet made by a country that doesn't even exist anymore because we bankrupted it and flown by a country we're technically not at war with. Totes WTF!? #ImSoScaredRightNow

I agree. While I'm not in the military, I've spent years working with a bunch of former Navy men and I just don't see them as the types that would get scared and run from anything that threatens their ship or their shipmates. The integrity, devotion, and sense of mission that sailors in the US Navy possess is incredible. I suspect that their response was more along the lines of "I dare him to come back and do that again"!
