This is a not a car related post. Before we get to the non-car things, have some nice wallpapers I have on rotation right now.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Now to the non-car things, I am upgrading to a new phone on Friday. I am not particularly attached to Android or iOS. I currently have an iPhone 5, which will go to stepdad once I upgrade. I've narrowed my choices down to the iPhone 6 or the LG G3. My carrier is Verizon and I'm familiar with both current versions mobile OSs. I am leaning towards the G3 because I really enjoy Android 5.0 Lollipop on my Nexus 7, which seems much better all around than the last major update. Sway me one way or another friends, or suggest another phone. If you suggest something else it has to be available from Verizon's online store. Below are the positives I see in each device.

iPhone 6: Syncs with my Macbook automatically, iMessage

LG G3: Slightly larger screen, longer battery life, fantastic camera

I will post phone and tablet wallpapers in a new thread once everything winds down. Thanks!

These are the exact same phones I came down to when I was looking, I ended up with an iPhone 6 simply because I couldn't stand how big the G3's screen is and I was less than thrilled with the quality of the photos the camera took. I have big hands and I couldn't even touch the upper left corner when I was holding it with my right hand. And for being a 13MP camera the pictures really aren't that great. The iPhone's 8MP takes better pictures.

Any particular reasons I should consider it?

LG G3. Android is more flexible than iOS, and doesn't have the random

"Nope you can't have that feature anymore" -Apple

problem.

Just me though. I'm waiting for an Oppo N3 to arrive. I couldn't be bothered with mainstream US phones anymore. I also may have a similar addiction to Nibbles.

I have large hands as well and that's probably my main concern with any phone, I dislike how small my iPhone 5 is in my hand even with an Otterbox Defender case. The only real problem I have with the G3 is that it isn't running pure Android like my Nexus and that is almost a deal breaker.

In terms of capability, the Moto X or new coming droid models are the best phones you can get on Verizon, hands down. In terms of ergonomics and your own personal preference, then things get less clear.

If you prefer Android over iOS, there are plenty of ways to sync an Android phone and a Mac. I use Google Drive for cloud storage, MightyText to sync my texts (it goes to Chrome on both my work PC and my Mac at home) and AirDroid for transferring files.

I can't stand skinned Android, so I'd probably go with either a Nexus 5 - old, I know, but mine's still running great - or, if I were buying on-contract, a new Moto X. Still, of the two, I'd probably go with the G3. I just don't really enjoy iOS all that much any more.

Personally I've been extremely happy with the iPhone 6. Large, but not too large to handle and navigate. Good pic quality and syncing with iCloud/Mac is a plus. For as Android, I really like the HTC One M8. Mostly because of aesthetics, I've never used one. But people seem to like them. Only thing is it's a tad on the heavier/thicker side.

I've got an iphone 6 for work last week. It is like a big iPhone 5. Not much else to say about. Camera seems nice. My personal phone is an S4.

Both OS' seem to do about the same thing. I like the podcast app on the iPhone a bit better.

My best friend has had a 6 for a few months and she likes it. I've played with it a bit and definitely like how much larger it is. I considered the M8 but didn't really like it in person.

That flexibility is definitely nice in Android, I enjoy Lollipop on my Nexus 7. I haven't really gotten that problem with Apple, but have heard of it happening.

My first phone was a Droid X, tough phone but a horrid skin of Android.

I've definitely considered the Nexus 5, if it's like my Nexus 7 I think I would love it. Not really sure about the Moto X, does it run pure Android? If I got the G3 I'd have to figure out how to put pure Android on it since they run a skinned version on the non Google editions.

I'm going to take a look at the Moto X since it has come up a few times now. My ergonomic preference is big enough to not feel tiny in my monster hands.

It's exactly like your Nexus 7, 'cept a fair bit faster. I've got a Nexus 7/Nexus 5 pair going right now, and it suits me perfectly.

The Moto X is pretty much clean, skin-wise - the only additions are a couple of extra apps, that suit the stock aesthetic perfectly - and it had Lollipop within a couple of weeks of the Nexus devices. (Indeed, it got Lollipop a fair bit faster than my N7 has—I'm still waiting on the update.)

I was aware of a couple of those services and am pretty dedicated to Google Drive and others. I wasn't particularly concerned about syncing everything but I'll check out MightyText. My favorite music app is doubleTwist, the paid version is great syncing between my Mac and Nexus 7. I think I will definitely lean more towards Android.

So the N5 still has a few good years left in it?

I got the N7 Lollipop update last week and it has definitely been a big change over Kitkat in my experience. Less buggy, much faster, and looks great.

I'm certainly not planning to replace mine anytime soon, and I've had it for quite a while. It's fast, the battery lasts long enough, the screen's just the right size for me, and - in red - I think it's a really good-looking phone.

I'm liking Lollipop on my N5, a couple of irritating quirks - the way the new pop-up notifications work, most notably - aside. If I don't have the OTA for my N7 soon, I'm gonna sideload it. I don't mind losing my data—everything's in the cloud, anyway.

I like AirDroid even for simple stuff like transferring pictures and such, rather than having to fish out a USB cable. Just open up the app and go to the web interface on the Mac, and you can transfer whatever you want between the phone and the Mac.

Windows Phone is awesome

quad core snapdragon 801

4gb ram

removable storage

Cortana

polycarbonate and aluminum - STURDY

reason not to? I hear that, even though VZ gets the best WP devices, they don't support them for shit. Developer unlock is a likely requirement.

I would like to get the N5 but it isn't available on the Verizon store. How hard would it be to sideload pure Lollipop onto a G3?

I've never really had any experience with Windows phones, don't really want to jump into something unknown to me. The description looks good I have to say.

It's my understanding that in order to do that you would need to locate a "pure lollipop" ROM for the G3, then root it, then flash it over to the phone.

I rooted my G2 but I haven't put a different ROM on it. I did install some root-only apps to tweak most of the things that were bugging me about it. I'm sure if you poke around the XDA LG G3 forums you can find more about custom ROMs.

All of the Droid phones are massive these days, much bigger than the iPhone. I have small hands and can barely tolerate them. The iPhone 6 is 2.64" wide, the Moto X (2014 model only!) is 2.85.

give it a test drive! The OS is smooth and so intuitive. I've had every flavor of Android, multiple iOS devices and I've found my home with WP. It just does what I want it to :)

Haha, I've noticed the sizing difference for sure! Of course I need something about the width of the X or G3 to have it feel comfortable in my hand.

I haven't really played with this year's fancy phones since my G2 is still working fine.

I can tell you that for my very average sized adult male hands, the G2 with a slim case on it is almost at the upper limit of phone size that works for me. Same with fitting into the front pocket of some of the slimmer pants I wear (and I don't wear particularly slim pants).

If I were buying a phone right now it'd be a Droid Turbo. It's got the Snapdragon 805, QHD screen, and bigass battery.

After that it'd be between the X and G3. They've got the same Snapdragon 801 processor. The X has cool wood trim, more-stock Android and likely quicker updates. The G3 has a better screen and camera.
