I had no idea that a Tesla Model S could be had for so little:



It seems a good $10k-$15k lower than similar models. Here's to hoping that in 5+ years, I'll be able to pick one up for even less!

That's because they usually have 5-10k of incentives at the state and federal level.

I didn't think those incentives applied on used vehicles. Especially when someone out of state (or in my case, out of the country) purchases the vehicle.

It does because it affects residual value and opportunity cost. As long as new Teslas in the states remain cheap, there's no incentive to buy used ones, driving down demand proportionally. If you're from out of the country and buying new, then that's a different story, but if you buy used out of the country, you're probably getting cars that were already marked down by subsidies anyway.

It's not a super-rigorous relationship, but it is a major effect that subsidies have on aftermarket values.

I had a chance to drive one of my co-workers's Tesla S models and it is amazing. You just push the pedal and it goes until you say stop.

His regular game around town is reach-the-speed-limit-by-the-other-side-of-the-intersection.

That seems like a Nice Price if it's been well cared for. Especially now that Tesla guarantees the battery and drivetrain for eight years and unlimited miles.
