"Logansteno: Bought a VW?" (logansteno)

I saw not one, not two, but three H2s on the way back to school. That's more than I've seen in a long time. Not to mention a slew of older, gas guzzling SUVs.
Welcome to America, where we have the memory of a goldfish and think once gas prices get low, they'll stay low. So we all go out and buy SUVs because 'Murica and then once prices go back up we sell them because we can't afford to fuel them.
If you're gonna drive an SUV, you gotta commit to paying for gas no matter the price.

I've been seeing more h2s and h3s lately too. I think people are pulling them out of their garages now they can afford to drive them. Like how people pull out their sports cars on nice weekends

I concur. Since gas prices have dropped, I'm actually seeing more hummers. Dafuq, people?

Who knows, people want their big ostentatious trucks I guess.
I will say that H3 prices are getting insanely low and getting tempting. H2s on the other hand... Yeah, I can't do 3MPG on any gas price.

Same here I have seen 10 in the past few days and before that I haven't seen a single one in months. I was seriously considering taking my Cobra out of storage and driving it daily.

I would have never though of Hummers as one of those cars you keep as a "toy" so to speak.

Welcome to America, where we have the memory of a goldfish - which is why, if Jeb Bush decided to run for President, he'd probably have a 50-50 chance of winning.

Interestingly, I've actually seen a few Teslas in the past few days, but still an average number of Hummers/Escalades/etc.

I saw a Model S this morning. Only the third one I've ever seen outside of auto shows.

the h3t was surprisingly capable off road. Not so comfy on pavement but rugged. it has my eye for the future. Can get that inline big fat 5 too. Should I need a truck that is.

It's like they appear out of nowhere! People kept their Hummer in the garage while gas prices were high?

I had an asshat in a H3 cut me off last week. It was like I was back in 2008 again.

They're not making new ones so? Your outrage is that they didn't drive them when gas prices were high? Or is it that they didn't scrap them?

Did you move down to Texas with us? I see at least 5 H2s a day and a gazillion Escalades, Suburbans, Tahoe's, Expeditions, Excursions.

I just can't believe people s memory is that short. Like gas prices totally will never go up again.
Also, I hoped amerca was over the hummer image.

Or, maybe they're driving their old(er) SUVs because it's winter .
Most of the year I drive this:
But now it's in storage so I'm driving this:
Pretty sure you know which one gets better mileage.

I want to master the art of hypermiling before gas prices increase again. So, I hypermiled my last tank of gas and got 19mpg, beating the EPA estimate by 2mpg!! Tough work, but definitely an important skill for anyone who buys an SUV nowadays and are stingy with gas money.

What makes their memory short? They didn't just buy them. It's like saying "I can't believe they have their sportscar out now. Don't they know it's going to get cold and snowy again?"

Ha. I bought my Durango back in February, back when gas was almost $4 a gallon. It cost close to $100 to fill up from empty. Now I can fill it for less than $70. Just got lucky there. But I know what to expect when prices go back up. I did see an H2 with temp tags the other day though. We will see how long it lasts. We did have a 7-10 cent per gallon drop over one day this weekend though.

Right, but let's look at it a different way. Ignoring sales of new cars, the drivers of Range Rovers and Suburbans did not put their cars in a garage when gas prices went up, and then take them back out because gas got cheap again. They either sold them and bought something more fuel efficient, or just kept driving them. These cars get nearly as bad of gas mileage as the H2. What killed the H2 was not gas prices, it was the image of driving something so intentionally brash and wasteful while gas was so expensive. They stopped driving them and put them away partly because a Hummer became socially unacceptable. And yet people think that now that gas prices are down, the image of a Hummer has changed and that the stigma associated with driving one that caused them to stop in 2008 now somehow no longer exists.
That's my opinion on it, anyway.
