The town where I grew up as a kid removed an entire hill in a park so people couldn't go sledding. Apparently work on the project just got done. So much bullshit here.

boo! Where I am, there's a country club gold course we all sled on. Everyone knows it happens, but nobody cares b/c there's a "no sledding sign" which releases them from liability

This is ridiculous. If there's not some way the sledding could have been classified as a "do at your own risk" thing so the park didn't have to pay for the insurance for it, something is broken. Do they have to close the park/pay the insurance because someone could go there and juggle chainsaws?

Wait, what? I had to re-read that multiple times to be sure, but it does actually say they're removing a hill, right?

Either you guys go sledging on pathetically small hills, or that's a serious bit of digging and trucking they have going on there. I can't begin to imagine how removing a hill can be cheaper than buying insurance, even if the insurance is expensive. Is the contractor who got the gig someone's brother/friend/campaign contributor?

In some parts of the country, you sled on any slope you can find.

Just because the park wouldn't be liable doesn't mean they wouldn't get sued for it. Court costs can really add up. That's my completely uneducated guess as to what's going on.

That makes sense. That's just… ugh.

I pity you poor people. Doesn't living somewhere with snow but no hills count as child abuse, if you have kids?

I haven't been back to that town in a couple years so I can't tell you much more than the article but this is the midwest, there are no hills anywhere!

It should. I live within 30 minutes of a snow-capped mountain now.

You grew up in Paxton?

Can you give me directions to Tom Meents' house?

And now I'm jealous instead of pitying you.

A while ago he told a group of us we could ask anyone from Paxton where he lives and they would know, just had to ask.

Proving, yet again, that there are too many people out there that need a "cause".

That sucks.

Haha, and now the kids will do what we did growing up in a hill-less town...sled down overpasses....you know, where there's cars and stuff driving in the snow. Glad to see they're seeing the big picture and thinking of the children or whatever.

Keep in mind I was too young to know a lot of stuff. My family would know that though!
