This Black Friday I picked up a Digiland tablet for next to nothing, and decided to semi-permanently mount it to my dashboard. I installed Torque Pro, paired it with my BAFX Bluetooth OBDII adapter and started driving.

Kinja'd!!!

Worst. Mistake. Ever.

Now I find myself staring at the coolant temperature gauge and getting antsy every time it increases in the slightest. When stopped, it'll get as high as 94°C, and that seems awful close to boiling. I recommend this setup to anyone who DOESN'T have (literal) OCD.

Anyone else have any tablet setups?

I replaced my speedometer with a smartphone running Torque. Speed, revs, timing advance, airflow, coolant temp, etc. (though coolant temp/oil pressure/some other stuff is actually reported on a built-in LCD on the car, which is nifty). It takes a lot of discipline to keep my eyes on the road, but I've managed, just by making the stuff like that too small to easily read to discourage constantly staring at it.

you had better educate yourself on how a cooling system works if you are worried about 94 Celsius. If you are running an open system with water, sure it will boil at 100C, in a pressurized system with antifreeze the boil point is much higher. Alot of thermostats don't even open till 90

Now how are you gonna pop your trunk reel queek when you need to grab your stop sticks?

They put a second trunk release on the driver door, so I can press it while doing a dive-roll out of the car. :D

Not sure where you live and / or park at, but there's no way that would fly in my neighborhood. The ghetto trash around here will smash your window to steal change & $69 Walmart GPS units. I doubt a perm-mount 7" tablet would last more than a week.

Now that the novelty has worn off, I use Torque mainly for keeping track of temps while towing. My truck will show transmission temp quite accurately on a digital readout, but the water temp is still a "Cold / Fine / Broke" gauge it seems.

Fellow crown vic driver (with what looks like the same miserable blue interior as mine)!

How did you mount that there? I sort of have been wanting to stick a mount somewhere for my phone to run Torque on just for fun. I have a similar single-DIN head unit in the top of the opening, too. Only thing is that I'm not really enthusiastic about blocking the trunk button. The door button works but the middle-of-the-dash option is soooooo convenient... sometimes...

The P71 is either the greatest shitbox or the shittiest great car ever made. Don't know which, but all I know is that I wouldn't trade mine for any other car.
