Remind you of anything?

As asinine as it is that we can't have the R-34 over here, I am positive it's the least of our Nation's problems at the moment.
The whole racist, sexist, other-phobic, Corporate takeover by Angry Old Rich White Guys who hate anything that isn't just like their idealized vision of the 1950s springs to mind first.

You can thank Ronald Reagan for doing the opposite of what he advocated and close the borders on car imports... free market yeah!!! but no :)

If this had been sold in America, you would have had to drive on the wrong side of the car, or your steering shaft and the twin turbos would be trying to occupy the same space.
While we can change our nation's laws, we cannot change the law of displacement.

If you examine the law's political implications, it is kind of a bigger deal than being able to live out our Fast and Furious fantasies.
We can't import these cars so that American OEMs get more sales. Well, rather than funneling our money to them, why not get them to build and sell cars like the ones we can't have?
At this point, you get into automotive politics, and corporate greed, then your cocoa is ready.

Except you don't actually follow the British Imperial system as it has evolved over the years. It causes confusion because the Imperial system is still in use in Canada in a limited capacity, but half the units are different from the US customary units which we see all the time. Half of the gallon jugs are 20% bigger than the other half.

we in Australia can import almost anything BUT if it's under 25 years old , you have to pay someone to convert it to RHD if it isn't already if you want to register it for the road.

It's not to improve sales for American OEMs. It's to help foreign OEMs prevent grey imports.
The law was sponsored by Mercedes, not GM.

I think I addressed why in the second half of my first reply.
I don't disagree with your point. I would rather live in this country and be allowed to import any car I wanted so long as I had the means.
The larger political implications are just what I said. Our country has been stolen by a bunch of racist, sexist, greedy assholes who want very much to return the world to their vision of what they think the 1950s looked like.
Being able to drive an R-34 in the US means that we've actually decided to run the country on reason and logic not rhetoric and grandstanding.

Sarcasm aside, I would rather go without any possibility of getting the R-34 over here if that meant we could achieve equality for everyone.

Yup. I am in 100% agreement. Trust me, equality is something I am very passionate about. I'm sure the Cigar Lounge is bored of my posts by now.
But while I think we should certainly focus on racial/gender/general equality before we focusing on focusing on import laws, one is not going to stop the other. And I certainly wouldn't complain if some sneaky politician worked a clause that let us import RS6 Avants into into a thousand-page bill about something more important.

While I do get some twisted pleasure out of other people on CL getting mad about them (or completely ignoring them, in the case of my most recent post) I'm not trolling! I swear! That doesn't mean I'm going to stop though. Ahaha.
Really I just don't have anywhere else to post my rants, but I think I would still post them there even if I did. Some of the comments I got on the last two were absolute gems.
