This probably already showed up on Oppo, but I just learned that Larry Larson's batshit Chevy S-10 ran a 5.95 second pass at 244.43 mph !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . And by street car, I mean registered and insured (and not as a kit car), still running the factory steel cab with VIN still installed, and able to run several hundred mile road trips without completely disintegrating (drag week).
If you haven't seen this beast before, Hot Rod has !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ... but here's the summary:
Based on a $400 craigslist find, a '98 regular cab Chevy S-10
Steel cab and bedsides, even stock headlights and tail lights
Full on ProMod rated chromoly tube frame chasis
Twin turbo 620ci aluminum big block pushing an estimated 2500 HP on alcohol
And here is some engineering pr0n
When they reboot the original Fast and Furious movie, Dom better fucking say "You owe me a 5 second car!" That's all I need in life. Even if the 1/4 mile race does go on to take 45 seconds to run, and the drivers all granny shift instead of double clutching like they should.

I love the rear end shot with the diff housing all tucked away snug as a bug.

Yeah that's difffffinitely my favorite (see what I did there, nudge nudge nudge wink wink).
I love simple an elegant no-nonsense packaging like that.

TLDR, but I saw Hot Rod about this truck, and I think its a carbon fiber cab, not 'original steel'.....

"The truck features the factory steel cab, steel doors (on the street), and steel bedsides. The truck's original steel windshield frame that the VIN tag is attached to remains where it was when GM built the truck."

Yeah it's impressive. That was kinda the point, because there's a bunch of people running full fiber race cars on Drag Week. Larry was like fuck you lazy bastards I can go faster than you with steel!

That truck is insane. Although Larry does have to swap the steel doors for carbon and remove the radiator and few other things to get the weight down when the truck does make a pass. It's not in street drive able form when it runs. Still, incredible.

There's a whole conversion process, they get rid of the whole gas fuel system, swap the doors, switch to slicks etc. But all of that stuff along either goes in the bed or in a trailer behind the truck, along with all the tools required, which is somehow even more badass than just rolling up and running a pass.
Drag week is basically just insane.

Yes I certainly don't want to take anything away from his accomplishment. He set out to prove a production based vehicle could outrun what were essentially pro mod cars with plates. And he did.

IIRC someone covered this a couple weeks ago.
However, with the new Drag Week Unlimited Iron class, I'm wondering if Larry will bring out both the truck and the Nova and double-duty them.

Does Larry have a son/daughter? Because then the S-10 and the Nova could take on Lutz and son's matching 57 Belairs. That would be a show.
Though iirc Jeff was already thinking about selling the Evil Twin...

I hadn't heard about that, though I would guess if it's true, after seeing what Larson threw down, Lutz knew Evil Twin needed a bit more than it could get. I wouldn't be surprised if Lutz makes his Pro Mod Camaro street legal and runs that.
No idea if Larson has children. Though if Chad Reynolds ended up in the Nova, I wouldn't be surprised.
