Cuz I really wanna do this to my ranger. That ranger is mechanically identical to mine. Oh my god that sound is sexy.

I love the freedom and fresh air of the Southeast. I can't wait to get the money to straight pipe mine. It sounds amazing with the cat disconnected.

I wonder if there is a way to get a better exhaust note without having any welding skills. Probably would be god awful, but Im lazy and cheap.

A lot of cat-backs are bolt on.

I can just tell there is something beautiful hiding in my exhaust pipe just waiting to be unleashed. That 4.0 makes some sweet music. I'll have to look at bolt on cat backs.

I'm sure there are some relatively cheap ones out there. I plan on taking mine to an exhaust shop and going manifold back(to get rid of the collector that partially causes the head gaskets to go), cat-delete, into some sort of muffler, probably a Flowmaster Super 44.

Or just do it myself, once I have a second vehicle.

My exhaust was well within the limits of the emissions test. I really want to improve my exhaust note, but I also dont want it to be illegal. I'll have to do some research on how catbacks effect the efficiency of the Catalytic converter

Most all cat-back's are 49 state legal at least, barring California, so it shouldn't do anything harmful to it.

For the most part it won't affect the cat too much. In some cases MAYBE the free flowing exhaust makes the cat run a bit cooler and thus more inefficient but I really doubt that is noticeable.
I'd get a catback or performance muffler and call it a day.
Did you change your trans fluid yet :)

Thanks for the insight. I havent had the time to take it to my mechanic to break the thread lock yet. I have my last final on wednesday and then I have a 2 and a half week break. I'll do it then. I dont think I'm leaking anymore, not after I got a look at the shift rail plugs. They were replaced with metal ones, the install looks to be fresh. I have a feeling the old ones were leaking and the residue just wasnt cleaned off. I really just want the thread lock off so I can monitor it myself, but I think I'm gonna have my mechanic do a fluid flush. I have a feeling there is sycnromesh in there. The guy I bought it from winterized the fluids, so thats probable. I just want ATF in there, thats what the manual says to do. I know syncromesh is technically okay, but I want whats correct.

Yeah, I would not be so sure that it's synchromesh unless the previous owner told you.
If I remember correctly the stuff on the threads is white, which looks like teflon paste to me (correct for NPT threads). Loctite would be green (not so bad if it's there), blue (bad freaking news), or red (break out the torch).
I think it's just pipe sealant.

The guy I bought it from flips cars, I essentially have a one owner truck but on paper its a 2 owner. The guy I bought it from only had it for 2 weeks while he fixed it up, he did everything but fix the leaking power steering hose. I did that with nibbles, he was a big help. The guy just said he winterized all the fluids, not being specific. My mom was with me and she knows nothing about cars. It was pretty obvious, She asked him what a differential was when he was describing what fluids he changed. She also cut me off every time I tried to say or ask something. He was probably trying not to be too technical for her sake. Its actually yellow, not white. But I do believe it is pipe sealant. I still need an impact driver to get it off, which I dont have. Hence taking it to my mechanic. I do have a puny 9.6v Ryobi Battery operated drill though. I wonder if that has enough torque to get that bolt off, I could go buy a bit.

Is it just a typical square plug? On some stuff all you need is a 3/8" extension and a ratchet that's long enough. No socket, just put the square of the extension right in the plug and pull.
Just make GOD DAMN sure the ratchet is going the correct way.

Its an octagonal bolt. I have to get some parts for my ratchet set, that or borrow SB62's. My set is incomplete and mismatched. Some bits work, some dont. I dont think the bigger ones do. I can try and do it myself again, do you think I need to put pipe sealant back on? Ive seen it done with and without, I wonder if its worth it.
