Recently, a really good friend of mine from work entered the market for another car. He and his wife have been sharing a Scion Xb, that they recently traded in for a 2008 Ford Expedition. Now he just needs a car he can drive between home and work.

Here's what we've looked at so far:

1998 SVT Cobra

2. 2002 Cadillac Deville

Kinja'd!!!

3. 2002 GTI

Kinja'd!!!

Deep down he really wants the Cobra, but with him having a 2 year old daughter, and his wife being on the fence about it, we're not quite sure that's going to happen. Now his grandfather has a 2010 Lincoln MKZ that my friend thinks he'll let him borrow/have for an extended period of time. But I don't think that's really what he wants. This guy is the hardest working, most giving person (how he and his wife ended up sharing the Xb) I've ever known and he deserves something he'll really have fun with. I'm kinda stumped right now because every other car I show to him, he reacts to positively, but not in a serious way. (I really want him to get that Cobra.)

B5 A4 with the 2.8 for reliability. If not, the GTI is a good choice.

The Cobra! More fun and more reliable than the other two. 4.6 is pretty bulletproof and they make wonderful noises.

Remove the DeVille from his least unless he's prepared to take care of it. That head gasket issue can be HUGE headache if you don't take care of it. But rest assured the issue will arise.

I believe 7,000 is the limit.

haha they are indeed reliable. He took that thing on multiple cross country trips and it never gave him any problems.

Point out there are Cobra parts everywhere and you can fit a seat in the back.

I say get the Cobra. Or the GTI. That is, given the choices listed above.

I'd go with the cobra, they have the expedition for moving the kids around so why not have a fun car, plus you can get a pretty good cobra for that budget. Why is his wife on the fence on the cobra?

My thoughts exactly! And for $3,500 I couldn't think of a better deal. She doesn't wanting him looking like he's going through a mid-life crisis. he's 29.

The cobra is a great car, but with a kid, I don't know. Mercury marauder maybe?

The big thing will be getting the wife on board. Start looking at sports sedans. I don't know the Murican ones very well but one really cool Japanese option is the Honda Civic Si sedan. The years of 2006-2011 are fantastic cars and might be easier to coax the wife in agreeing on something along those lines. Other guys go ahead and chime in with other great sedans.

So at 29 after getting divorced I went through a mini mid life crisis. I bought a CRX for a project car and 07 Civic Si for a summer daily.

That's why they have the Expedition. This other car would be strictly for him to drive to and from work.
