im ashamed, but I forgot all about chipotle. Slick marketing aside, they make an honest burito.

They seem to have labor issues nowadays.

Yeah, in the same way that Taco Bell makes an honest attempt at Mexican.
Moe's is franchise burrito master race.

Somebody here at work mispronounces it "Chipolte". Since there isn't one nearby, I'd not have known this except for the fact that it is one of the words used in impersonations of him.

Moes/Willy's > Chipotle, IMO, but having a bit of lime in everything isn't a *bad* thing.

Is that what Chipotle does? Puts lime in everything?

Seems like. A large part of Chipotle is the simple menu meats + rice with a bit of herb and lime. Not bad, but not really that zesty, you know? Kind of bland.

I live in Madison, WI but for 6 years I worked in a northern "suburb" (a.k.a. farm town that smells like pig shit all the time but people built an office park and subdivisions there anyway and is now considered a "premium" location by white people looking to hide from minorities).
I would get lunch at the Subway in this town fairly often, and more often than not, people called the chipotle sauce, "chi-pole-tay." They also would call the Italian bread, "eye-talian."
I once witnessed someone order a sandwich on "eye-talian" bread, with "chi-pole-tay" sauce.
My head nearly exploded.

I haven't eaten there enough to learn their habits, but I know I was never satisfied after eating there. But what I remember, exactly what you said - sorta kinda but not really zesty, but still flat and uninspired.

Are you sure it wasn't a "sanewich" or "sangwich"? Possibly a "samwich"?

Acceptable blandish food that's sort of interesting, fills one up, but nothing either good or bad enough to suffer remark - the Zeppo Marx of tex-mex. At least when something is slimy and over-salted it's sort of good in a guilty and possibly nauseating way.

Of those choices, samwich would be the most likely around here.
But the usual order would be like, "let me get a spicy eye-talian sub on eye-talian herb & cheese bread," then when prompted for dressing, "chi-pole-tay."

I work with a Wisconsonian, but one who's not quite that cartoonishly yokel. Then again, one of the wealthier people my age I know has a heavy blend of Alabama and Georgia accent.

You can tell if they're really from Wisconsin if every August for the past 20 years or so they've said, "Hey, the Packers have Brett Favre/Aaron Rodgers, we're going to the Super Bowl!"

The red salsa adds a little kick and Chipotle (brown) Tabasco adds some smoke, and I like to order a burrito bowl but ask for the vinaigrette dressing they have for salads to pour over the top. Turns it into Chipotle soup if you aren't careful, but lots of flavor.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get the Chipotle love. Too few options. Everything tastes salty. Would rather Freebirds.

Their cheese is nice, I guess? I could still picture myself eating there occasionally if I was still near one - but it's kind of like there being one flavor of food there - I'd have to be in the mood for that one flavor. With the nearest one a very solid drive from here, I'm not sensing any urgency.
