Because I really want this thing. I mean the wheels are too ghetto fab for me, but those can be changed, and I really need a tank like this to run over, well, everything...

Buy a 5-ton for less than 10k, run over this Hummer. And the factory that made the Hummer.

Like a lot of things, I want to find a friend that owns one of these. So I can get the enjoyment of spending an afternoon driving around and bringing democracy to everything in the sight by running it over. Without, of course, the cost or hassle of actually owning it.

The one above is probably an Alpha, which means it gets the Duramax and Allison, which are both infinitely better than the 6.5 Detroit and 4L80E.

Completely forgot the Alpha was a thing. Good call.

The One I posted is an 06 Alpha. One year only with all sorts of features as well as the much coveted 6.6 L Durmax diesel and Allison transmission

I'm hoping one pops up locally for sale so I can see if it would even be a remotely plausible daily.

lol. But the hummer can climb a vertical wall. Also, 50 cal turret

You can mount a GAU-8 to the 5 ton if you really wanted.

And the 5-ton can run directly through that vertical wall.

Also true. But if that vertical wall is a rock shelf in the middle of the desert, I'm pretty sure the wall will win.

I searched cars.com, and it seem that the 2006 H1 Alpha commands quite a premium over the older ones.

Here's a Bro-Hummer in Chicago for $80k - Linky

As far as being remotely plausible, that's doubtful. Check out those interior pics, and how much space there is between the seats. Plus it would tough to deal with in the city. I checked the specs, and the listed width is 86.5 inches, compared to 80 for a current GM pickup. Length is a bit shorter though.

Still, you can buy an actual tank for less than the Alpha.

it's 17 inches wider than my jeep and 13 inches longer... I don't drive in the city much so that's not really a concern for me.

"cheap h1" = $40,000 ish. dmax swap = about 50k ish. alphas other features would probably be about $10k so yes-ish

Duramax swap at 50k? I think it would be a bit closer to 20k, unless you bought one directly from GM.

There's a good bit of metal work and fitting that has to be done to make it fit in the older years, the eng / trans is probably around 30 k new from GM but all the custom work is what drives the $ up.

I wouldn't buy "new". I would buy upgraded re-manufactured, or just used. It could be done. Also keep in mind, 40k is for a 6.5 H1 that runs, the 6.5 being the 6.5, there is a pretty good chance of finding a non running one for cheap.

most of the non-ops Ive seen are in rough shape from sitting and would require some good body / interior work as well, so it probably would all even out. I am sure it could be done on a "budget", but unless I happen into some money soon, Ill just keep building my jeep and dreaming of bad ass 4 ton tank hoonage that is the H1 alpha.
