The employees behind the desk are complete assholes, obviously, but why does the post office have to hire assholes to drive their trucks too?
Not the delivery people, they're usually pretty nice. It's the post office semi-trucks. 4 times in the last month I've been cut off or almost crashed into by post office trucks. Usually semi-truck drivers are professional and careful, but of course the truck drivers that the post office hires are assholes. It must be a job requirement.

Fun fact: My mailman looks like Newman. He's pretty cool, though.

Around the world, inconsiderate people are attracted to government work. See: parliament, immigration, police, the British Monarchy.

Is that why he can never deliver?

Haha, that must be fun. My actual mailman who delivers stuff to our house is fine, but the people in every office in town are just awful. It used to piss me off, but now it's just so bad it's funny.

This is absolutely true. I think most of has to do with how they are treated by the general public. I witnessed a grown lady throw a tantrum at the Post Office a few weeks ago because she couldn't track a package mailed 3 days earlier. She even accused the guy behind the counter of stealing it. Then she wanted to file a claim for $50, and said she wasn't leaving until that was done. The guy was way calmer than I could of been and explained to her you can't file a claim before the expected delivery date. As someone who ships USPS a lot I can atest to the fact their tracking system goes down ALL the time. A lot of times theres no tracking for days and the next day it all goes thru and it's already delivered. The best part of this story is what was inside the box. I assumed it was something valuable like an iPad.etc.. It was jars of PEANUT BUTTER!!

Do you know what kind of peanut butter? It must be pretty delicious to merit all that.
Yeah, they've got a crappy job, but the people at UPS and FedEx have always been friendly and helpful. The delivery guys aren't too kind to the packages, but that's a different issue.

At least out here, and especially when I was in Reno, a lot of the semi drivers were contracted, and not actually postal employees.
As for people behind the counter, hit and miss, also, if you had to deal with the public like they did every day you would be grumpy too. Lord knows I would

I live in New Jersey and it's a state full of assholes, but the post office, drivers and mail people are the nicest people around. Maybe its the area you live in.

That's what I was thinking. I have to try some of this stuff. I hope it was for her son in Afghanistan at least to embarass herself that much.

Because the CDTA only has so many openings for bus drivers.

Funny how guaranteeing people they're unfirable, unaccountable for performance, and unaffected by real world events tends to attract the least motivated and most entitled members of society...
