I got an offer the other day for Vikkie; the possessed 2000 V70R that hates me. When I went to show it, she decided to be special again and was really rough downshifting. He offered $1500; I countered at $2200; he offered $1800 and doesn't want to move too much. I paid $1700 for the car. Put another $400 or so in tires. And then another $200 or so at the Pick N Pull. I'd take a small loss on it. But I would no longer have the car that I hate so damn much. I'm also not getting like any other offers. What do I do?

DO IT since you hate the car so much (and it's not a manual)

Take the money and run. Get rid of this headache ASAP, especially if he's the only serious buyer you've had so far. Don't trade $1,800 guaranteed now for maybe $2,000 or so in the future.
For what it's worth, I'm trying to sell an engine. I've got over $3,000 into it and I only got my first bite after I dropped the price to $1,500.

Sometimes it's best to just walk away.
If you bought the car as (bad) transportation, you shouldn't expect a profit anyway. If you bought it as a flip, just cut your losses and try to learn from the experience. They can't all be winners.

Im gonna call him back today and try for $1900. If he can; great. If not, Im taking the 1800,, cleaning it up a bit, and giving it to him tomorrow.

Thanks for the great picture that made me smile. I bought the car because I was an idiot and thought that it'd make me happy. It didn't. At all. All its done is add to my headaches. So really I can look at it as a learning experience.
My big issue is getting my parents to let me sell for that little.

Time to sell it! You never get back money you spent on parts. Take the money. Based on these numbers, you got to "experience" owning a cool and rare Volvo around for a few months for $500. That's really not bad

Take the money and run. Call me a cheapskate if you will, but I wouldn't pay $1800 for an R with transmission issues. The unfortunate reality is that you can almost never get back what you put in to the car. Hell, I've never even been able to sell a car for more than I paid for it, let alone break even on the maintenance costs.
I'm sorry that it was such a headache for you. I still love my R, and I won't lie, I was hoping that you'd be able to come to terms with yours, but I entirely understand your reasons for selling. A car like that is meant to be fun, and if you're not enjoying it, then there's no reason to hold on to it, no matter what it is.

I wanted to like this car. I wanted it to be the car I held onto for the rest of my life and restored it to pristine factory condition. Its just been headache after headache after headache.
I bought the car because I thought it was what I wanted. I was feeling down and thought it could make me happier. This car has made me worse. I never really felt happy. Hell leaving the seller's driveway I felt... off about it. This car wasn't meant to be. It has just disappointed me and ruined all P80 Volvos for me. I only want an old 240 or the new ones covered under warrnaty now. I'm not buying cheap used like that ever again.
I dont ever drive the thing and when I do something else goes wrong. It just broke me down to tears when something else would go wrong on it.
Thats my lesson.. do not buy cars because you think they are what you want. Like I said it didn't ever make me happy. I still feel like shit and seeing this stupid silver turd in my driveway every day makes me feel worse.

I mean when I had to DD it when grandma took the Civic, it was still cheaper than a rental car!
I learned that cars cannot make you happy at all.

I wouldn't say you're an idiot, you're young and just starting out. This isn't going to be the last car you buy that pisses you off!

Sell it, take a small hit. Besides, that small of a loss for owning and operating an...interesting Volvo R isn't too bad.

Take it. There's a cleaner V70 R on Swedespeed that needs a new tranny for $2000, and it's not selling.
With a mismatch front bumper, gremlins seemingly everywhere and a rebuilt title, $1700 isn't too shabby.

Take it, Since you can't really perform an exorcism on a car.
