This is inspired by Patrick Georges Auto Show post on the FP.
I was in 8th grade in 1987. I still remember the first ad I saw for the 87 Mustang GT.
As a kid, I was floored.
By my Sophomore year in HS I was tired of them.
Now, I can't believe that a car that was designed in the 70s looked as good as it did in the late 80s. Never mind the fact that it was way overdue for replacement.
What car or truck grabbed your attention around your Freshman year of High School?

Can't really think of any Freshman year, but Sophomore year I grew to love the GT-R and the E39 BMW M5.

A blue FJ60 Land Cruiser. An older man would be at the convenience store I went by, in a restored one every morning. It was perfect. I've loved them ever since.
Looked like this, but with a roof rack, and a slightly different shade of blue.

My freshman year of high school the most awesome car in my mind was the new C6 Z06. It looked so fucking mean and that huge 7.0L V8 making 505hp was the coolest shit to me. It remains one of my favorite cars and now that I'm 4 days away from my BSEE I hope that I'm not too far away from one...five or six more years maybe

My brother drove a GTS. Being the younger brother, I wanted to one up him, haha.

I was really into B-bodies, they consistently gave me B-boners, but they were around a decade old by the time I was a freshman, which was around the time the 300C/Charger/Jeep SRT8s came out. I remember the first 300C SRT8 I've ever seen, cruising down the beltway as my face was planted against the bus' window.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

The cars that originally topped my list of first car wants. Mercedes-Benz W126 and W140, BMW X5, E39, and E38, Toyota Land Cruiser 80, and a myriad of older cars.

-Neighbor in my old neighborhood had a Jaguar, either an X-Type or an XJ. I still think it's one of the best car designs ever made.
-The new Accords actually look pretty nice. My brother's got the V6 and it pulls like a train.
-I adored mid-'00s Mustangs when I was 8
-I love the look of the late '00s C Classes with the emblem on the grill instead of the hood. It's the only one where the ornament looks strange on the hood.

At that time, it was basically anything that was new, but to be more specific the LX 5.0
Liked the GT's but I remember reading that the LX's had cheaper insurance (which, for some reason seemed important at the time...). I remember when the CHP got these as pursuit vehicles - they had to give the officers additional training as they had a few accidents with unfortunate outcomes due to the light body/high power combo...

The LX was lighter and cheaper than the GT too.

I saw it last time I was back up there, and it still is as perfect as it was when I left.

I only really became a car guy after I got my licence, but there were a few cars that caught my eye back then.
I specifically remember a Fiesta ST, in blue with white side stripes, that I often saw in my school car park. I'm pretty sure it belonged to a teacher. There was something about that car that just really worked for me.

Lancer Evolution X in 2009.
Recently I was finally able to see one up close. No longer want it. Interior is lame, MPG sucks, boot space sucks, and it is very expensive.

I'm still in high school so I'm not sure if I count, but I loved this 4 years ago and I still do now.

I always have friends tell me "But (insert faster car here) I sooo much better!" And I'm always like "But the Gullwings dude!" I don't think I've lost that argument yet.

My taste were very similar. But I wasn't a fan of the GT. I never liked the body kit on it.
I wanted a Mustang LX 5.0 Fastback. This would of been in the early 2000's when these mustangs were 5-6K.
but my dream car, and I still lust over it was always a Viper. More specifically a later model RT/10 with power windows 5 spoke wheels vs the early model RT/10 that had canvas windows and 3 spoke wheels.
