Yup. 5 speed. It's going to hell in a hand basket, but it still runs, it still leaks oil, and I still love driving it. I've had VWs all my driving life. When I first sat in it after having a Fox for years, I said, "Yup, this is a VW." I'm hoping my wife will let me replace it with another.

Thanks, but you haven't seen the inside. The years haven't been kind.

Haha, Does it have that really oddly textured rat fur cloth stuff? :P

Not sure what you mean, but the seats are sort of falling apart. There's a big hole on the side of the seat where my ass has rubbed it for 13 years when I get in.

It's hard to describe, but it's a really odd looking cloth when it's worn.
How many miles are on it?

202,000. Found this on the Internet. Seat cloth is identical, but mine does not have the gauges in the center console. Just a hole where the CD changer would have gone.

The exterior looks like it has held up extremely well for being more than a decade old. They joys of living where you do, I guess. I'll have a tough time keeping mine looking that good up here in the land of salt and snow.

It's spent its whole life in Austin, TX. Not a crumb of road salt here, though we do get at least one ice storm a year. They just put down sand. So yes, the exterior is great. Interior, not so much.

Thanks. I was sitting on my front porch smoking a cigar this afternoon and was struck by the light and the leaves, with the contrast of the silver car. Just one of those moments. Took it with my iPotato 5S. It's a great camera in the right conditions.

The wear and tear has to show somewhere, I guess. How much longer are you planning on keeping it? With 200k miles and leaking some oil, at some point is it gonna be more economically viable to replace it rather that keep it going.

I'll keep it as long as possible, but not out of sentimentality. I can't afford to replace it right now. It doesn't leak much, but I do have to keep an eye on it. Hell, the oil leak was installed at the factory. Most of the major elements have been replaced at least once, though it is still on its original clutch (knock on wood). No, the really best part of the car, beyond my emotional attachment, is that its paid for. I'll keep it as long as it remains relatively reliable and economical. Hell, I'm getting 26 mpg, and they advertised 24 back in the day.

200k miles on the original clutch? Dang, impressive. I thought I was doing well with our Mazda3 still not slipping at 150+k miles but I see we've got a while to go yet.
And the fuel economy is nothing to complain about either, especially if it's anything other than pure highway driving.
