Ouch! I have done almost the same once. But I was smart enough to let go of the handle when it was too late.
I was removing 1200 kgs of ballast weight from our test truck but I didn't know that the pallet jack had an unreliable handle. I tried to brake the mass by lowering it down but nothing happened when I pulled the handle. Nothing broke (how could 300 kg steel discs even be damaged?) but I was pretty embarrassed.
