Kinja'd!!!

Quick story and I will get to it. My girlfriends dad, notorious car hoarder, had a 1930 Bentley 6 1/2 litre when he met her mom, and through when she was a kid. He actually daily drove the thing until the late eighties, because he is crazy like that, then sold it for peanuts. I pumped him for pictures last time I was up there and he couldn't find a one, but her mom vouched for it, and she is looking for some pics too. Anyhow, I was up drinking beer with him and he said there may be another late 20's-early 30's Bentley a few towns south in RUNNING AND DRIVING CONDITION for somewhere around 5-6 grand from some old codger who keeps it in his barn that he wants to buy so he can drive around in one again. He called me last night and said it is there. It isn't advertised, and isn't going anywhere. I am going to go check it out when I am up for Christmas. I am pretty excited to take a million pictures and just generally hang out with the thing. But if I do such a thing and make that kind of a barn find, can the interwebs handle it? I have no idea of the model, no idea of the condition besides it runs and moves under its own power, and is pretty solid. So it could look like his model A, but I don't think I care. And the other question, is almost any pre war Bentley that moves under it's own power worth 5 large? I would imagine so

A pre-war bentley in salvageable condition is worth $5K any day of the week. Hell solid roller model-A coupes & roadsters are selling for that much.

I think that is why I am so excited, because I know he will drive it all over the place. Dude will probably load the damn thing full of lobsters to go make deliveries

Any pre-war Bentley is going to be worth that in almost any shape. Running and capable of moving? Sounds like you've found yourself a potential treasure chest!

This is amazing. Fingers crossed!

My great-uncle, a true British eccentric in many ways, owned a 4-1/2 Litre Bentley for many years, and took it on regular trips across Europe. Never saw the car, but the tales of his adventures are well-known in my family.

I'm excited for you! Pre-war Bentleys are among my favorite cars. James Bond drove a 4-1/2 Litre with a supercharger and this has always struck me as incredibly classy yet somewhat deviant at the same time.

Bring it down the shore for The Race of Gentlemen (prewar car and tank shift motorcycle race on the beach). Show these rockabillies what a REAL race car can do, plus, we can do a "gentleman's racers past and present" photoshoot.

Please do, because holy shit. I had a customer, since passed away, who had a barn of treasures like that. I walked in not knowing what to expect, only to to be confronted with a no-shit Sindelfingen-bodied 1935 500k on flat tires, covered in dust, among many, many other cars including a 1908 Renault AX that I later worked on, V12 1931 Caddy and a 1922 Mercer.

haha touche' That was about my reaction. I don't have pics, he was a reclusive guy & didn't want any taken. The collection has since been largely sold off since his death. There was a '48 Lincoln Conti convertible with a Mercury Flathead V8 in it, '53 MBZ 300D Adenaur full cabriolet (in black/red, looking for all the world like a Nazi staff car), '57 356A cab (gloriously patinated and still running), at least one Model T, and the crown jewel, a '78 Super Beetle 'vert with almost no miles ;). Apparently there were other cars stashed in garages all over town that I never saw. Pretty ridiculous.

This is the Renault. It had been sitting for decades, and we tore it down & got her running properly. I did the last inspection & service before she went to auction. Just a wonderful little car. This pic was shot on the road in front of the barn.

that Renault is spectacular. I don't want to talk about 300 Adenaurs, I was supposed to inherit one but it got turned into a nice 48' Egg Harbor I also didn't inherit

Balls. I don't care for Adenaurs much, that car was no fun to work on. We did the mechanicals on it too. The SC coupes do look nice though.

lol I agree with you. I helped restore it in the expectation that it was mine, but they are pigs to drive. Who knows what I would have flipped it for. I did get a sweet mkVIII out of it though. Hahaha worth practically nothing
