my mother had a blue gasoline version, what a turd. It was brand new and wouldn't pass emissions. They had to tune it all messed up to pass the test then tune it so it ran ok. Every damn year

A friends parents had one that wouldn't pass emissions either. They were able to get some sort of hardship exemption from the state, because they were broke and couldn't afford a new car.

wild, do you remember how old it was at the time? My mother had it 3-4 years and went back to subaru with a nice GL10 4wd turbo wagon

I don't know, best guess is it was 6-8 years old at the time. They kept the thing for at least a decade though. They finally replaced it with an '84 Buick Park Ave they bought for $400 from our old elementary school principal (that was in '97).

These are super slooooooowwwww.... I had a buddy in high school (mid 90s!) with a diesel Chevette and it was hilariously slow. Like, losing a drag race to a semi-truck slow. And that's dead serious, not a joke.

That being said, it wasn't much worse than a similar vintage Rabbit diesel and it got insanely good fuel economy. It's be interesting to swap a later VW TDI engine into...

Just a little poke:

7-series ALPINA, blue interior, manual transmission, wired car phone . Featured on BAT, located in the Netherlands. You like blue interiors, right?

good god I love that car. Too much cake and not enough hauling ability for me though! I cant believe the disconnect between Alpina pricing over there and over here

What do you mean, do you consider it cheap or expensive?
