Been at the shop getting tuned. Also other small things fixed.
Went on the dyno today and found the stock clutch was slipping at 25psi.
Here are a couple vids of the runs
Power results from first pull.

I have a couple of questions about talons, are they reliable, is it true they are less of a attention magnet than a eclipse, is crank walk really a issue, and is it a good daily driver with light mods.

Well find out. Its my first DSM. Crank walk was only an issue from 95 and 96 is what i was told by the shop. The way the engines were manufactured was bad. So they changed design. My engine only has about 35k on it. Im planning on DD during winter and then sharing time with my 03 miata during the summer.

Nice DSM! I'm building my '90 up, also in the MI area.

Thanks for the info! I've been searching about crank-walk allot as that seems to be the real killer of 2gs but the information is everywhere with some saying it's to due with the 6 bolt vs 7 bolt cranks and others saying it was a early casting issue. I also watched some of jafromobile's video's on the cars and the castings for the head sure look ruff inside. Anyway the real problem is finding a clean rust free example in the NE and convincing my parents that a car as old as my younger brother is better value than a down payment on a base model corolla (college kid problems my money really isn't enough or mine).

Nice! Yea i live in Kalamazoo but the shop working on mine is Force Engineering. If you are anywhere nearby i suggest them. They are knowledgeable and smart.

Yea mine is actually a 6 bolt swapped engine that was rebuilt. Its only those two years that you really have to worry about. Mine is mostly rust free but in Michigan thats rare

Interesting, did you use the 7 bolt heads since one of them has larger ports vs the other one?and finding a 2g DSM especially a talon is really hard here, I mostly find less than ideal eclipses with many hard miles, 1gs that are asking someone to bring them to a junk yard, and all of them have crazy rust or some other issue that render them into weekend projects at best.

I believe its the 6 bolt heads. PO did swap and engine rebuild. He used to work for DSM Graveyard. Yea i got lucky with mine. Found on Craigslist and contacted him 2 hours after it was posted. Ive only had it for about 3 weeks.

Wow you really scored with car! If you don't mind me asking, could you tell me how much you spent on the car so can have an idea of how much to pay/save up for a good one? (all this DSM talk sparked my interest again and really want one now)

I paid $4800 to buy it and after its out of the shop ill have about $2300 more into it.
Really it depends on how much you want to do yourself versus how much you want to pay a shop. Here in Michigan you can find pretty good DSM's for around 5-6k

Thanks for the info! Just checked the local craigslist listings and the good ones float around 6-8k with a decent looking ones around the mid 4s, now I just have to save.

swear if the title read "FiST on the dyno" it'd have like 4,000 views and people would be all like o00oo dat sound
Now that's out of my system what turbo are you using? ...n did the dyno shop give you a good price because I will freaking drive there from upstate. My closest awd dyno pretty much won't help me unless I buy dsmlink from them, which I just don't feel like trying to sell my current maft-II setup to get.
Next clutch choice?
Does sound great btw w00t team 6 bolt

I've heard good things, I'll definitely be using their dynos when the time comes. Strangely not many awd dynos in the Detroit metro area. For trans work, jon at TRE in the kalamazoo area really knows his stuff!

its a 16g turbo. 3in thermal dynamics exhaust full stand alone aem ecu. front mount intercooler.
the clutch is going to be an ACT 6 puck.
This shop is in Plainwell Michigan. Force engineering.
yes mine is a 6 bolt swap too.

yes I am very happy with this shop. I have heard of TRE but never had to have a trans rebuild yet.

Cool. I do wish I had another 16G to replace the one that finally failed last summer after like 6 years of 22psi and sitting undriven intermittently for months/years at a time. Mine was ported/clipped & still not a bad lifespan. The spool/power potential is damn near perfect. I have an unused SBR G50 thats being installed this week I tried and failed to trade on dsmtuners for a 16G. oh well

Yea the goal for mine is 20-25 psi and about 310hp to the wheels. Im sure it will be plenty quick. Especially coming from driving a Miata
