I've been itching to try rally cross for a while now. Unfortunately, I don't own a suitable vehicle to do it in. I can't afford to beat-up my truck like that, and I'm not sure they'd let me run it anyways. My !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is just too nice to hammer around an off road course, not to mention that the suspension is completely cashed anyways.

I love the idea of buying an ugly 70's car, with RWD and a manual trans, and beating the ever-loving shit out of it. Enter this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Here's the catch, I can only do this, if I sell the Buick, which is WAY nicer than a beater race car will ever be. What does Oppo think is this great idea hare-brained scheme?

terrible idea. Keep the Buick, spend $500-1000 on a car you can thrash to see if you like it that much

Awful idea.
1. Trucks are commonly competitive cars at every rallyX I've been to so far, you are allowed to field your truck.
2. You should field your truck and keep your nice car.

JC Whitney sells heavy duty springs for '78 novas. They are stupidly fun on unpaved surfaces. Ask the man who drove one .

That car has some rare parts that 4thgen Nova guys would pay big buck for (Tack cluster & 4-speed parts). BTW, they aren't all ugly... (maybe i'm biased because it's mine lol)

I've seen the ad for that RX-7 before, it's really close to where I work. Didn't know about the upper midwest group, I will join that. Thanks!

That's basically what I'd like to build. Maybe I just need to find a cheaper, crappier Nova?

I'm worried about trashing my truck, it's also pretty nice, and it's my daily driver. How's your car holding up?

I like this idea. Not sure I can make it past the wife, but maybe.

Only thing broken so far , and mine is just a little hatchback. Your truck is made for this stuff!

Thanks! You're probably right, and I'm in that terrible spot where the car is really nice, but it's really not worth all that much money.

I was surprised to see the tack cluster, and i know the 4 speed parts are rare too, but I would definitely be keeping those if I got it!
I think the 4th gen Novas are a bit homely, but I still love them. Yours looks great!

I'll consider it then :)
I suppose I should start by just going to a rally cross. I've never actually seen one in person.

Yeah, but if it makes you happy, keep it! And you don't see them ever on the road so it's really cool!

Yes! You should. Make sure to ask for a ride too. Then you'll know exactly what you're getting yourself into.

The one I started with was $500. Though by the end I was all in for $2-3K including junkyard V8 & trans
