Sounds like an exception, not a rule. A friend of mine was hit by one of these cops and they even gave her a ticket after totaling her car and injuring her. She was going to sue, but no lawyer would touch it since the cops and courts are so in bed with each other.

Heard of something similar but the person was arrested for failure to yield and some other trumped up charge about wreckless driving, case was thrown out though this was in 2006.

Similar story happened to a friend of mine. He was turning left when a cop broadsided him who was driving in the opposite lane of traffic without lights. Cop came up thew street in the wrong direction and the friend turned into his path. You know, since you don't expect to look behind you when you're turning left. Friend ended up having to pay for his car and the cop car. And lost his license for 6 months.
