My brother is looking for a truck. It must be manual (I taught him well), and less than 2500 loonies.

He found this:

Kinja'd!!!

A 1994 Mazda B3000. It's 1500 loonies, and has a manual.

It includes a V6 engine, a bed liner, two side steps, four new tires, two jump seats, and a tape deck!

Kinja'd!!!

There's 163000 metric miles, or 101000 imperial miles. Any thoughts, problems or considerations?

How far away is Denver? Is he in the US of A? What trouble might I get into? Would I go to jail? What kind of food do they serve in jail? What if I don't like the food in jail? What if I get shanked over not appreciating the food in jail? How often do people die from a shank? Would I get buried in the prison yard? Would there be a funeral? Would any Oppos come to the funeral? Would they let Oppos in the prison? Could I get some visitors to break me out? How cheap are helicopter rentals? Do you think I could pull off an escape like the ones in Quebec? Are jail guards expensive to bribe? Would I go into hiding, or would I go on the run? When I'm out of jail, would Denver come after me for stealing his truck? What kind of truck does he have? Would he sell it for less than 2500 loonies so I can avoid death or being chased for the rest of my life?

So many questions.

An old Ranger/B3000 will run forever. At least on the second gen, the 3.0L V6 has less power, but more reliability. The 4.0L one has more power but is supposedly less reliable.

Make sure the transmission doesn't grind. The transmission is going to make a lot of noise because it the truck but make sure he does not grind. Also check the clutch. Normal stuff. But a big thing on these is the fan clutch. Make sure that the fan works

12/09/2014 at 23:06

Kinja'd!!!0

The clutch should bite somewhere near the floor if you let go of the clutch and start moving somewhere near the top of the pedal travel it May need a new clutch. Just listen to the transmission if it's grinding you'll just know. It'll be incredibly loud. Like can't hear the person next to you loud. There is no sound deadening between the transmission in the cabin. And for that reason it's not going to be quiet either. Expect some noticeable noise under normal operation. You should be able to move the fan with your hand with the engine off. These things have a plastic fan so expect cracks it's no big deal, just keep an eye in it. The fan clutch has silicone in it that sometimes leaks. If the silicone has leaked the clutch may seize and the fan won't spin just make sure the fan spins. But if the silicone has leaked and the fan clutch has not ceased it'll still work but it'll be loud. my silicone leaked out and I can't hear the engine over the fan, but it works

Check the engine bay for cracked plastic, these things only have a five digit odometer it's very easy to hide mileage. But judging by the looks of the interior I doubt it's not 100,000 mile truck. Also it's a truck so check for rust in the bed, around a bed, rear quarter panels and such. Also don't get freaked out about the transmission like I did. It won't be quiet don't nitpick every noise.

Found one in Barrie: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/… Asking $4000 but it's not worth that much given how molested it is... lifts decrease Jeep values, no matter what the guy selling it tells you.

And here's one in Acton (GTA), but he's parting it out. $450 http://comancheclub.com/topic/43302-pa… Same guy was advertising this interior back in June, as well. http://comancheclub.com/topic/43489-se…

It's kinda funny, also sad. There are far more older vehicles on the road out here, even with our harsher winters. Road salt's a bitch. I've seen a half dozen ads for Comanches here in Saskatoon in the last couple months, two of them Eliminators. And there's next to nothing in all of southern Ontario...

I think the Mazda is a better buy. Also, do you know what a country lift is? I do. It's when you weld steel onto the frame to push the axles down. That he thinks it's worth $4000 is a testament to his ignorance.

Rough Country's a brand name. If it's their full lift kit, it's got everything you need in it, longer coils, extended links, shocks, etc; but it's add-a-leaf in the back, and no guarantees it was installed properly, fasteners weren't reused, etc. Definitely it's not worth $4000, but it likely wouldn't be bad for $2000 to $2500. He just thinks it's worth more cause he put a bunch of money into it to replace what wasn't broke with something that shouldn't necessarily be there... and quite frankly could cause problems down the road. Given that it's not stock, yeah, the Mazda's still the better buy, even at $2000 each.
