I came across an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about a new piece of equipment aboard the ISS called the OPALS which stands for Optical Payload for Lasercomm Science. Based on the article, it sounds like it's basically laser high speed internet. When I ran the numbers for the kind of download rate they were getting, 50 Mbps, it seemed incredibly fast. Like, I'm pretty sure the ISS has better internet than I do at work and they're going from a 56K modem speed to modern high speed internet. Am I interpreting what they're doing correctly?
