Ever since Afroduck's lap around Manhattan, I've been curious as to how fast one could complete a loop of I-285. So, one of these days, I plan on doing a lap of it at the flow of traffic just to see what the proper time would be. I'm thinking that it might be good to go around noon or 1:00 on a work day, just so there can be minimal traffic while still not being completely deserted. Is anyone interested in making a meet/cruise out of it? (Obviously I wouldn't make it during a work day if any of you work five days a week. We'd probably do Sunday morning or evening.)

I dunno. It's long enough to make a drive out of, but I don't know how fun it would be at the speed of traffic, even if the speed of traffic around that time is a little upward of 75. It's pretty hard to predict when idiocy will strike, too. Still, benchmarking the time wouldn't hurt as an objective.
-I'm least familiar with the far southwest of 285, myself. I've mostly ended up on the sectors north of 20 while there, on both sides.

Just make sure not to film the attempt and put it on youtube. Don't want to end up as a fugitive in Canada.

He said "at the flow of traffic". That means not as amazing as the AfroDuck approach, but it would generate a "good time" benchmark in the process, and such a benchmark would be useful if anybody *was* trying to AfroDuck it... though they probably shouldn't.

I'm putting the over/under at 2.5 days to complete, because: Atlanta traffic

"At the flow of traffic"
You realize, as an ATL Opponaut, this is an incredibly flexible phrase.

The speed of traffic on 285 on the West Wall south of I-20 is 80+.

Well duh. If I had to take a guess, 285 averages between 75 and 85 excluding rush hour. I'd just do what everyone else is doing at the time.

Yeah, I've only been down to the southwest corner once before and it's weird over there. Not really dangerous or confusing, but... weird. I don't know why.
