like exploding fuel systems, but I really like driving that sportwagen.

Kinja'd!!!

The clutch is perfect, the manual is decent, the steering is excellent, the brakes are strong (but touchy) and the engine pulls in any gear at any engine speed from 1500-4000 which...with the gearing it has...is more speed than it sounds. And driving like an idiot on the way to work this morning (WOT every opportunity traffic allowed) still netted me 48 mpg average. Driving a German car is like dating the lead of the high school drama club; highs and lows and everything in between all day everyday.

I didn't. I hate sunroofs with the passion of a 1000 suns. Might have something to do with living in Utah where its very sunny and hot in the summer and also dry so the seals dry out over time and leak.

Well I've enjoyed driving it for the last 40k miles, except the exploding part.

oh yeah, and that is a whole lot of area to leak for real. I like them in some cars, hate them in others. The 525iT I had with the dual sunroof I loved, Discoverys and Legacies with the dual roof, same. Audi 100/200 are terrible and small and always leak. Car by car basis, but that sportwagen panoramic is just glorious. I know like 6 people that all have red ones with the roof, all TDI

my 1988 VW Polo had a steel sliding sunroof that would hold onto water, then dump it on your knees when you brake.

The last VW we had (b5 passat) had a leaky sunroof (clogged drain tubes...common problem) and the cruisers sunroof leaks a little. top heavy, prone to leaking, my cruiser one rattles offroad and makes the roof less able to carry weight. I see no benefit to them other than easy access to roof from inside the car.

use a good diesel additive and you should be fine. It's not like all of them are preordained to explode. Reading up on the hpfp issues and it seems like some are just unlucky. I prescribe to "additives all the time" school of learning.

We do use some type of additive... Not sure what brand though

Again, reading about it, there's a plethora of additives and some of them are snake oil for sure. But the ones that have been tested have the results online (optilube xpd and power service diesel kleen are two that i've used) and seem to work just fine.
