Bolt some rocket pods on the Osprey and go shooting. The brief video at the bottom shows the Osprey firing from hover. I wonder if they can fire at speed. This is the first I've heard of this capability being tested.I'm digging the paint job on this bird.

One day, on a flight in the desert, I saw an Osprey. The Osprey had stripes colored like a tangerine.

Do these things have the capability for door gunners? Or a cannon under the front?

Those rockets just seem kinda pointless for what the Osprey is.

I will always think of the game Half-Life when I see the V22

I so hope the USAF V-22s get this. I would love to see the 150th SoW flying around town with Rocket pods.

I cannot form into words how much I LOATHE this bird.

Nor can I quantify the multitude of times that its inability to operate in a hot LZ safely has almost killed me, the pilots, and my friends.

I can tell you how many times that the one of was in was knocked to the ground from hover only to recover and take flight again after the crew chief shoved us off the loading ramp.

These much like the F-35 are genuinely only in our arsenal because of lobbyists.

This bird truly has NO place in active and hot combat zones. As a shuttle between ship and shore or base to base while avoiding potential hotzones, sure, but it should never be a combat mission bird.

I wonder if the rotors/props are too close to the rear of the rocket pod to allow that. I'm digging the foil taped "heat shield" though.

Interesting, it's got an N number, registered to the Navy, but supposedly it's on loan to Bell for R&D.

I don't know about door gunners, but they do shoot from the back door.

I noticed that. I would guess that since it's being flown by civilians it would have to have an N number.

No cannon in the front. Honestly, I'm not really sure what they're testing here, unless they're thinking of turning it into some sort of gunship. There are other assets in the inventory that do a much better job of this sort of thing.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I think this is just an exercise in 'because we can'.

It seems to me that if they want to "plow the road" ahead of the landing aircraft, Hellfires, or some other guided munition, might be a better bet. Maybe some crazy Special Forces application? Who knows. Probably more of a proof of concept than anything else.

I see these pretty often flying around NWF, Hurlburt has a bunch of them. They seem too over complicated to be useful.

WTF is up with the Tangerine references today!?

It's important to remember the whole reason the V-22 program was born in the first place: The Iran Hostage Crisis. We needed a VTOL vehicle that could travel further than a helicopter, faster than a helicopter, into a hostile environment. It had to fend for itself, since the gunslinging blenders wouldn't be able to keep up or escort it all the way to the target. Strapping heavier arms onto the V-22 is just the next step towards that original goal.

Mostly me having an attack of references to the previous video (i.e. twice). Did I inspire others, or was there just some synchronicity?
