I didn't know about the Chrysler LHS before this morning, and I'm in love !
Whoa ! what a looker.
Does anyone have any experience with them, looks like a great alternative to a Panther, if I can ever find one.
Here's s a photo dump for your viewing enjoyment
Stunning !
Looks great in BRG
Lagonda-esque shape

How can anyone want this?
This is one of the worst cars of all time.
But to each their own. I like plenty of weird cars too.

They were awful! My dad had one, biggest POS ever.

Uh...how is a FWD Chrysler an alternative to a Panther? Maybe a companion if you really, really miss inexplicable failures in your cars.

Uh, ok
I thought it looked like a pretty sweet ride.
I'm sad tho hear they were not good, because I really like how they look.

It's about the same size and looks even more luxurious.
The FWD thing might be a problem for spirited driving, I'll give you that.

Terrible, terrible cars.

One run in with these. A friend of mine in high school had one. He spent his small life savings on a maroon one with something like 80k miles. The transmission went less than 2 months later.

Finding one in my area will be the challenge

I may just not be seeing eye-to-eye regarding your opinion of Panthers. A Panther platform car is for durability, flexibility, and a bit of abuse. Sure, the Town Car may look luxurious, but compared to a Lexus (even a pretty old used one) it's mostly a throwback to overstuffed Broughams, not actual comfort.
In terms of durability, the forward-control Chryslers are pretty much the opposite of a Panther...the LHS was just a retro-styled forward-control Chrysler designed to be safe and familiar for old people.

That may explain why they are so rare.

my father in law had an early-00's LHS. The thing was massive, it was a boat to drive. He liked it though, he traded it in at 130k miles because the transmission forgot how to count

Oh they made a new gen in the 00 as well, wasn't aware of that either.
I think I prefer the first gen, but that's just me.

every thing! engine head gaskets: blown, tranny :died under 100k, Coolin system made my pasta strainer seem water tight, heater core: replaced 3 times, SOOOo much rust, dash board back lights: died constantly, half the buttons on the dahs board fell off, brakes:too small for size constantly wore out.. and the list goes on an on.. oh also terrible in the snow.. just awful.

I kinda like them as well even though there aren't too many reasons to actually own one. They are not bad cars, the automatic transmissions seems to be a bit flaky though, it wouldn't surprise me if thats just caused by poor maintenance though. However, it should be said that I like pretty much about every big car from this era, so this isn't an exception.

My grandfather had one and he loved it. Only reason he got rid of it was because the 300m came out. Personally, I liked the New Yorker better. Plush ride, decent gas mileage, fair amount of power and luxury for days. Only issue he ever had was his timing belt broke. Had a new belt put on and off he went.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

My dad had a Concorde from the same era as that LHS. It was the sporty alternative to the LHS, I believe, and he said it was a decent car when it was new, but nothing special. He did note that it was a very comfy highway cruiser, but a bit down on power. I'd look at a newer, zippier 300M.

This thing was named after the hydraulic fluid which Citroen used to put in early DS', which can cause corrosion and is aggressive to paint. That kind of says it all.
