Sorry - the New York football Jets (the only sports team I even remotely care about) have fallen to 2 won and 11 lost.

We've already started it over on Oppo+.

There was a post a couple days ago. The guy in charge got busy, but it's still happening. You have until the 10th to sign up now. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/the-second-ann…

We need a new coach, a new quarterback, and a new offensive line (save one or two players) and an offense designed around said new quarterback. Oh, and two cornerbacks on defense. And a new general manager. If the Jets were a car (see what I'm doing here?) I'd strip out the saleable parts and send the rest to THE CRUSHER.

A large contingent of Old Oppo (and some still-current members of New Oppo) that defected to Google+ after Kinja was implemented.

that sounds like a cult, or a facebook group (basically the same thing lul). i have only ever seen kinja here and have no idea what "Old Oppo" is. There is only one Oppo; and that is here in oppositelock.jalopnik.com

Here I thought it was a play on Drive+. There is also the opposite talk page on facebook that I actually seem to spend more time on than Oppo these days.

Some of us old-schoolers were here way before Kinja was put on. You apparently weren't here for the....'teething pains' of the numerous "remodels" over the course of about a year. Oppo became extremely glitchy and cumbersome and the entire way comments and accounts were handled changed entirely. They got rid of the previous "Star" systems and implemented what is currently here. Trust me, things used to be very different. Some people couldn't adapt to the changes and left. Some of us stuck through it and stayed.

that was a really long time ago, since I have never even heard of an "old system" or "remodels" and what is a "Star?"
Oppositelock.jalopnik.com has never been glitchy for me and I love everyone here. That is actually really sad that there is a imitation oppositelock somewhere on the internet; the real Oppo is right here and works flawlessly. I'm glad you are here though, friend. Thanks for the insight.

Err...I feel like you're confused. Yes, it was a long time ago. Like, 2-3 years. The site was WAY different from how it is now. Some people didn't like the changes and wanted to leave, but didn't want to lose contact with other Oppo members, so they all made a Google+ community. It's not an imitation- it's a holdover of old and current members who all still love each other's virtual company. Some of them just don't like the changes to the site over the years.
As for Stars, they existed before Burner accounts and everything. Everybody was a greyed out commenter until they were 'Starred' by one of the editors or moderators (the Author system is a subtler, less obvious holdover from them). Starred commenter's comments always went to the top of the list on a page and were sort of like the local celebs of the site. Some found it unfair, but it was actually pretty hard to get Starred so most felt that if you had a Star, you'd earned it. But, all that's gone now and there are a ton of newer folks that are here because of the newer way of doing things, so I can understand why they made the changes they did- even if I didn't understand them at the time and it was very confusing for all of us old farts who were around at the time.

Thank you for the detailed information but now I am left with more questions.
What was "WAY" different about oppositelock than it is now? Oppo has cars, random nsfw, discussion of carporn, stories about working on cars, stories about racing and rallying our cars, reviews of cars we've driven, and other off topic automotive stuff like hot wheels and model cars and kids with cars etc. Were these things not here before so they do not like them?
Star system sounds like approved commenting which is here now; also, seems a bit petty to hold certain people on a pedestal just because they spend a lot of time trying to impress one another. Opponauts here seem more friendly than that.
You should stay here, a "community" of identical thinkers sounds like a cult. Oppositelock here loves everyone and we have great discussions and various ideas.
