Seriously, I struck the deal to sell the Spider this morning, and her new owner is coming to pick her up in the morning.

There's a backstory... I drove the 740 down to pick the Fiat up and bring it to Kansas last weekend, which went well... Until I had a breakdown in New Florence, MO. 209 miles from home... Fuck.

So, out came the AAA card, and I was informed that they'd cover the Volvo's tow, but not the Fiat's, so I got to pay for that out of pocket... To the tune of $800, after hook-up fees and all. Threw up the Fiat on CL, struck a deal, and she's soon to be tormenting someone else's life instead of mine, and I can get my bills paid.

Now, all I have to do is diagnose this pesky no-spark issue with the 740 and I'll be golden. (Replaced so far: Distributor, ignition amplifier, coil, wires...) Especially since said 740 is a damn good tow rig.

Congrats on selling the Fiat.

On the Volvo - we had a turbobrick that kept having ignition issues. It liked eating Hall Effect sensors out of the ignition. Check that.

I know our 700-series can tow, but it's still weird seeing them do it for anything more than a tiny U-Haul or motorcycle trailer.

I have a few Haynes, Chilton, and Volvo Factory service manuals if you need any references that I can look up for you for the 740. I don't think the factory manuals go back before 1990 but could be worth a look, since I think they were on Jetronic 2.4 before then, unless yours is older than I think and runs Jetronic 2.2.

Mine is an 86 with LH 2.2. She's also running, now. The little capacitor that connects to the negative terminal of the coil was dead, along with the amplifier. Remove it, and it runs.

Yep. But no longer; I'm back to being the weird Volvo man.. (Plus one reliable Mazda)
