You know "that guy" on auto classified ads. The guy who completely misrepresents his car, just so that it will be included in competing search results. The guy who includes "Jeep Wrangler" in his description of an old lifted Tacoma on Craigslist. Usually, "that guy" doesn't turn up on Hemmings, which I suppose is why it piqued my interest when I saw the headline !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on Hemmings.com yesterday. Um, what? I get it - someone who is looking for a Miata might be looking for a Z3. But they probably won't cross shop a Cobra, right? Whatever. Not the point. The point is that this guy's description was somehow accurate, although the Cobra part is debatable.
Here's the rundown, per the Hemmings description:
GMC 3.1L V6 that was bored, stroked, balanced, blue printed with an Eagle Cam and Edelbrock intake
Camaro T5 5 speed transmission topped off with a custom 5 speed shifter leading down to a 4.10 positraction rear from a Mazda RX7
Custom made Headman Headers to a dual exhaust that exits out the middle of the rear valance
Mazda Miata frame and interior
BMW Z3 body (a lot of custom fiberglass)
8,000 miles (I have no idea what those 8,000mi are on - probably engine)
$20,000
NPCP? In all honesty, it's not a bad looking car, and it might even be good looking if that hood scoop was removed along with the lower grille chrome and those mirrors were replaced with something more modern. It also appears to have been finished pretty well - lines are clean and the description states that everything from windows to radio are fully functional. If your goal every time you go to the grocery store is to confuse the hell out of people, then this is the car for you! Otherwise...yeah...probably not the car for you. Complete description is below for good measure. Guy kinda gives me a chuckle when he suggests "Japanese reliability". The only Japanese part on the drivetrain appears to be the rear end.
This is a meticulously engineered and constructed blend of all cultures and continents. What you are looking at is a combination of Japanese - German - American muscle sportscar creating todays Cobra, Sunbeam Tiger or MGB. The principal is to take a respected reliable Japanese roadster with the beautiful lines of a BMW Z3 and add good old American muscle. Here is a car that you can drive as it has real windows that roll up with a defroster and A/C that works with the push of the original in dash button. There is also a stereo that you can listen to music or enjoy the therapeutic rumble of the exhaust. Look over the photo's this car is immaculate from top to bottom inside and out. The original engine was removed and replaced with a rebuilt GMC 3.1L V6 that was bored, stroked, balanced, blue printed with an Eagle Cam and Edelbrock intake. It's coupled to a Camaro T5 5 speed transmission topped off with a custom 5 speed shifter leading down to a 4.10 positraction rear from a Mazda RX7. Notice the custom made Headman Headers to a dual exhaust that exits out the middle of the rear valance. The exhaust has a deep-throated cam sound but is not objectionably loud. The car accelerates strongly from any speed and brakes like a modern performance car. It is sure to impress the neighbors. One Everything works properly, the fuel gauge, tachometer, speedometer, oil pressure gauge, cold a/c, and heat when needed. The interior looks and feels comfortable to any size frame with plenty of leg and arm room. The entire nose is fiberglass so it should weigh in at around 2,000lbs.
Tens of thousands were spent to create this classic looking BMW Z3 sports car with the reliability of a Mazda Miata and simplicity of a Chevrolet. So dare to be different and enjoy this amazing car at a fraction of what it cost to build. Take a moment to view the youtube video The sound you hear in the beginning is of the actual car. Twenty grand is a lot to ask of a car that will only appeal to a very small group of people, and that group might only consist of the current owner. If it had used a small block V8 of some kind then it would at least appeal to the V8 Miata people. Building what you want is fine, but don't expect anybody else to want it.

Try getting it serviced. And twenty grand? More like three. Geeze, part it out already and be done with it.

Also try getting it licensed anywhere that has emission inspections.

I don't know why this thing pisses me off so much. If you want a Z3, buy one. Engine swap? I have no problem with that as long as the suspension and transmission can take it. But that body kit? Fuuuuuuck me.
