!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! like oil is as cheap as it will ever get. Why can't you be more like europe? Why do you always have to do things the hard way, burger?
Why can't you make cars that value power as well as efficiency? Don't you know the common man can't afford to swing $50k at something as trivially useless as a 700HP supercoupe? What's in it for the working class?
Why can't you make cars that are as awesome at laguna seca as they are at the 1/4 mile? Why does it always have to be about straight-line speed and power? it's a shame you don't do any specific track tuning at that nur-ring-thingy they got in Germoney, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Nope, it's always more power, more power, more power, MOAR POWER. That's all that counts. Nevermind carbon-ceramic brakes, magneto shocks, lightweight NA engines and aerodynamic drag tuning, none of that stuff matters at all to you. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Why can't you be more innovative, and consider technologies that weren't relevant in the car market just a few decades ago? Why can't you build us a sleek and beautiful sedan from the future that uses no gasoline and suffers no range anxiety? Guess we'll have to wait for Japan to cover that hole in the market....
and don't even get me started on America's terrible record with supercars. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Nope. Never. Damnit america, the automotive landscape would be so much better and more competitive if your cars were as awesome as the ones pictured in this article. Err...wait a minute...

The problem isn't what kind of cars Americans build. It's what kind of cars they buy as DDs. And I agree with the commenter that a Hellcat Ram would be dick waving at this point. It won't be fast and it certainly won't be practical.

Because Racecar whooooo!
Bentley uses a push rod V8 currently ya know. We can innovative things if we want to. 2.2L V6 up to 700hp in Indycars without the crazy budget of F1 or ERS. The tech is here. Z06 is pretty much un beatable until you go to hypercar status. Also, have you been to Whataburger? It will put hair on your pubes! from how good it is. Lol that's right, double hair! :]

Because 'MURICA DAMMIT! Why should we be the same as Europe? I like being different, thank you.
We don't conform to what everyone else does! Even if it puts us on their "level" we make our or kind of fun, deal with it m8!
Euro cars are fun as hell, and some 'Murican cars are becoming more "Euro", the Vette, Mustang for example. It's alright to have some Euro influences, but not a complete redesign to be European, hell no.

The Mustang is definitively becoming more European (one of the rare occasions where I'll use the continental demonym instead of specifying, since well, I just can't).

Yeah, there's definitely a problem with america's choice as the best selling DD in the market, but that was more Japan's doing than it was ours.
I will agree that a 700HP ram is dick wavery, with the caviat that DD a powerful anything involves dick wavery. Any amount of power that can take you beyond reasonable/legal speeds is unnecessary for driving everyday and buying such a powerful vehicle is a total waste of money and potential on the road. But so what? Building these vehicles achieves the dreams of those who work hard to see these vehicles made real, as well as those who've long wished for a hot wheels car they can drive since they were children. The more practical options on the market will still be there; they would not magically vanish at the appearance of a 700HP RAM. You're really going to tell me that these monstrosities from Europe are ok, but a Hellcat Ram isn't?

Because IRS? Lol I don't know why everyone is linking IRS being a exclusive Euro trait. Mustangs have had it on many production cars in the past. Even without it, last gen Boss 302 held its own very well. The problem is that are too many contradictions to any automotive debate. That's why i just walk away and let the kids battle it out lol. I've been turning wrenches for enough time to have zero bias. Whether working on a Euro, Japanese, or American car, to me, they are all bolts, nuts, parts, and fluids.

Not because of the IRS, it's the dimensions and even the design that make it feel a bit Euro.

You said it man. All cars still operate under the same priciples right. Laws of physics still apply regardless of the way your tires touch the ground.
The way I see it, what goes on in the US is a reflection of what's going on around the world. We landed on the Moon because of the help from German scientist. The Corvette is great because of some European engineers. I think the head engineers at Tesla are British if Im not mistaken. So people can't be mad at us without being mad at the rest of the world.

I'd classify it as a GT myself and while the Aston is plenty fast enough I don't think a GT would have much trouble outrunning it.

I agree with what you said, but I also think/feel that the "middle class" salaries leave people with the option to buy only 1 car, they kind Of try to find a do it all car, both performance and room/ comfort. It seems easier and more reliable to put a bigger v6, v8 in a family car than a smaller high strung engine and allow people to make the best of it. Hell my wife wanted an sub for this car, so what did we end up? SRT8 grand cherokee, it is an SUV that was relatively affordable and can still be fun enough in a pinch. My friend's wife at least likes cars so he got a CTS v as the family car. My preference, a sedan that gets 35+ mpg and buy a fun car for the rest of the time, but not there at the moment.

It was "our" doing because while Japan was offering affordable, fun, reliable cars for three decades, US was producing crap and later declaring bankruptcy. Now Ford makes six good cars for a few years and people here scoff at working class families shelling out for a beige Camry?

I'd argue it's not so much "stupid" as it reflects the overall culture (and thereby the market in which determines what sells.) I got problems with the culture, at times, but I can't say it's "stupid" to reflect it.
What I will agree with is anyone in the American way that argues there is no other way to do something, no other solutions, this is the best, etc. That's stupid because it's anti-survival. It doesn't allow for flex or adaptability or creativity to shine.. and that's un-American in my book. We didn't get to where we were because we didn't try new things, attempt amazing stunts, etc. I suppose it's another case study of getting to the top and then forgetting why you got there. I do see some of the car engineering going through that climb, plateau, oops oh fuck, small change, plateau, oops oh fuck...etc pattern in the last 30 years.
One of our family friends was a GM Delco R&D type. Some of the stuff he was working on sounded soo cool. I've not ever seen any of it, but it would have required large changes in the way things were done. I blame it on accounting... once you invest in capital equipment (like a manufacturing line), the resistance to change goes up exponentially as the investment goes up.

American too.
The point is that a car has, I think, to be designed and engineered in the country to be said to come from said country... Where it's built, I don't really care. It's like saying the Sierra Cosworth is an american car, because it's a Ford...

That's a silly thing to ask for, giving the requirement to leverage global talent and infrastructure to produce a car today. Nobody thinks of the 5 series as anything other than a german luxury sedan, and it is that, no matter who BMW hired to design it, where they chose to develop it, who they hired to build it and what nation the factory ultimately resided in; those variables are not relevant to the fact that is being produced by a german organization with german ideals in mind.
The Miata is distinctly japanese, despite not being built in japan and being originally designed by non-japanese people. It is a product of a Japanese organization, who's values regarding sports cars (lightweight, low displacement small engines, a focus on handling over straight line speed) are still there, and will remain there no matter where on the globe Mazda chooses to build it.
