I need to remove the stupid neutral rev limiter. Instead of being able to rev to 6700rpm in neutral (where the main rev limiter is set) it only revs to 4500 or so. Sadface.

Why is your limiter set at 6700? Kind of negates the point of having one.

Because yolo, obviously. It might be 6500, actually. Engine explosion happens at about 7000rpm.

Raise to 6700, which is the normal redline.

Raise it to 6500-6700 where it redlines while in drive.

Why? When you redline higher in Neutral, you still go nowhere. It just uses more gas. If you mess with the computer, you invite trouble.

My car does the same thing. Unless it's in a drive gear it's limited to 4k.

6500? Ugh, I'm scared to rev my ford 3.8 above 5500rpm. My Bama tuner raised the redline to 6.2k or so, scared the crap out of me hearing it spin that high. She did not sound comfortable up there

There's a pretty nice amount of pop when shifting gears. A bit less so after the tune, but still has some life to it.

I've noticed the 'pop' and 'rasp' really become noticeable when I lean out the tuning, or run near knock. Maybe the sound is more noticable the closer you are to a stoichiometric AFR? Choice between sound or efficient power, I guess

it has a lower limiter in neutral to keep you from popping the torque converter. Which can happen if you rev it too high in neutral and drop it in gear.

So it's to prevent neutral drops? I'm not stupid enough to do that anyway. I'm very VERY aware of the fact the 4T65E's differential is made of sugar cubes. I'm not about to go doing stupid shit on a part with 250k miles :P I just want to be able to rev higher when doing exhaust clips or showing off to friends, because if I take it up to *Actual* rev-limit and get off the gas I'm rewarded with some glorious ear-shattering afterfire.

Yes, that is the main reason.
It's also a good idea to let the engine come up to temperature before you rev it too much, although with that particular engine I doubt it matters, since most likely none of the tolerances are tight enough for it to matter.
