Kinja'd!!!

So a nice middle-aged couple in Seattle has come forward this week to claim a $90 million Powerball jackpot, and once a lotto winner is revealed, of course, everyone always wants to know what they plan to do with all that cash. The Quams' plan? Pay off their debts, travel, and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Now, I want to make it clear that I'm not making fun of the Quams for their quotidian choice - this is definitely preferable to them blowing it all on a stupid $80,000 custom pickup or financing their cousin's new chain of beauty salons or a pyramid scheme or wherever it is that irresponsible lotto winners usually throw all their money. Something tells me they will probably not be one of those cautionary tales.

But c'mon man. Over $56 million after taxes and you're just gonna buy a Forester?? At least buy three or four so you have some spares.

Pretty humble, I'm pretty sure Daniel Tosh drives a Subaru and look where he is now.

Well.. I'd buy a Lamborghini Islero, and a Ferrari 308, a Gilbern Invader MKIII, a Morgan 4/4 and an Audi S7. And a house in the Fulham area.

I know 2 different lottery jackpot winners. (which is why i'll probably never win). I tell the story of the 2 directions they went often. Here it is:

Lottery family 1:

Family of 5 (so 3 kids). Builds a brand new 3 story mansion, buys a new car and truck (all I remember was one was a GMC 3500), and 36 foot power boat. (later upgrades it to 48 foot, god knows why)

Still working because, as a mechanic you can't maintain that lifestyle without at least SOME income

Lottery family 2:

Husband and wife (no kids) bought a reasonable nice house down near the jersey shore (didn't get nailed by hurricanes either) Bought a Volvo wagon. Never worked again. Except for the wife working part time at the GAP. Why? She was bored and likes the discount.

——

It's funny how people can go drastically different directions.

The money he got from that "content" far outweighs the value of said Subaru.

Its what I would do. Pay off debts, travel. I would put money away.

I would totally buy a reasonable house with plans to live their probably forever and take a part time job in a garage somewhere just to kill time and work on different cars. Of course, I'd also have my own 20+ car collection, so I could probably spend all my time working on those, but then I would be that weird rich guy who never comes out in public.

My plan exactly. Buy property too, and set enough aside in a separate account for monthly/annual taxes so I literally never have to think about my place in the world again.

Yeah my wife and I talked and said if we ever won she could quit her job but I'd stay on the ambulance full time just to keep me from going crazy. Hell I only work 3 days a week as is

I like to think that if I ever won the lottery, I'd still go to work even if it were only part-time just because I couldn't let my brain go to mush. My wife and I already bought our "dream house" which is a quaint little 1300sq-ft cape cod in a modest Midwestern town, but I like to think that we would make a few additions to the house if we had some spare cash and buy a vacation home in Texas. Sure, we'd get new cars but I don't think we'd get anything more than a new Grand Cherokee and a CTS-V Wagon. What WOULD I do with all of the millions leftover? Invest in my kids education. Why? That shit will cost a fortune in 20 years if things keep going the way they are. Oh, and in my spare time I'd like to travel and flip houses. Not the most modest lifestyle, but why even play the lottery if you don't dream about "someday"?

Hahaha true.

Obviously I've thought through all this stuff and I might still work I'm not sure. She definitely would.

I'd move (even though we just did lol) but I'd be able to afford more land and garage space/property. My millions would go to paying off debt immediately. Ours, our parents, and our siblings. Also college for kids. because we're already saving for our almost 2 year old's college...god I hope he's good at sports...

The older I get the less flashy car I would get if I won the lotto. In my teens I would have to live in a warehouse to store all the cars I would buy, now that I am in my 30s it would be maybe 3 or 4.

right?! The wife and I started saving for our kids that we don't even have yet, but I'm realizing that it's not even going to be nearly enough. I just read an article yesterday that a 4-year degree from an in-state school will cost about $100k in 20 years.... wow.

And I've also thought about this too, that I would pay off all of my family's debts, regardless of how much they have. Give them all a clean slate.

And going off of what you just said, I'd also have to buy the piece of property adjacent to my house so I could build a bigger garage and actually throw a tennis ball as far as I could to my dog

I would buy a reasonable sized house for me, my 2 boys and my brothers...then a 45 car garage out back. With a custom built track just for me. :D

Awesome! I believe I've been there once

How expensive are ranches, if you don't mind me asking? All I want is a few acres with some cypress trees and room to let my dog run. My wife and I keep talking about moving to Texas (she's a native, from Houston but somehow tolerates Wisconsin for me) and one condition I have for moving down there is having land

Well, it depends on the area, but our neighbors bought their 100 acre ranch for around $500,000 back in 2005 and prices have at least doubled since then.

I can understand that. My wife and I have our ranch as a get away for the two of use and our kids and grandkids.

haha yeah man. I was blessed and lucky enough to go out of state 4 years and my family covered the cost of it. My wife has student loans, but they'll be gone in another 4-5 years (thankfully).

I can easily see in-state schools costing 100k.

I don't think people understand that we pay crazy low taxes in the US so "state funded" schools have to raise rates. I mean, think about it. 20 years ago entire campuses didn't need to be wired for wi-fi. There's more stuff to pay for. Is it getting a tad out of hand? yeah it is. But there is more stuff going on.

I'd buy a nice home in a good neighborhood, and then fill it's 4 car garage with an F-type, and M5, an E63 AMG S, and a Range Rover Sport. Then, outside on the large parking area, i'll have a Silverado for towing, and a polestar V60 for my sister
