Where do you guys go to find all these off the wall beer brands? The only place that sells non-piss water where I live is publix, and they don't even have the decency to refrigerate the non-corporate stuff.

You have multiple limites release, hard to find beers. You managed to find multiple bottles of Backwoods Bastard, and you drink a breakfast stout as your go-to. You are the definition of beer snob.
Now, lets talk about how you're going to get me that backwoods.... Oh, and I'll take that Founders IRS too.

Can't speak for the 'muricans here, but I get tons of stuff sent to me.. meet people online, trade beers :)

Not really, just kind of. Friend of mine used to be the Oskar Blues brewmaster from inception, now he is off at his own brewery.
Anyhow, you know how 505 rolls
![]() 12/05/2014 at 10:31 |

But... I drink everything, I just have good taste! And yes, there was a bit of bragging with that second picture. That was the result of my wife and I both going to multiple shops that day (and my parents picking up a third bottle of the Firestone XVIII).
And to be honest, of all of the Founders beers I have had, the IRS is the best. That stuff is amazing.

I'd love to meet people on here, but I live in Florida. The Normal person-to-serial killer ratio is spiked pretty high here, so I can't really risk that... :(

3 local bottle shops, plus four major liquor retailers... I guess I just know where to shop? What part of the country do you live in?

I never even tasted an american made beer (except that Budweiser once when I was in Boston a few years back)....
Recently I've tasted a few Belgian beers. The Maredsous, which is really good, one of my favourite. I also got to try a Vedett which is white beer, with some lemon taste. And one I really love, the Trappe, you can't even tell it's 10% of alcohol. One of the best beer I drank.

It is really great. It's excessively malty, and the hops get buried behind a wall of darkness.

Nice! Don't judge American beers based on the major breweries. I was shocked when I was in Cardiff about a decade ago and I was paying £1 for a pint of local stuff and locals were paying £5 for a bottle of budweiser. The world is a weird place.

It was in there as a semi-control. It's not bad for a winter lager. Actually it's exceptionally good for a spiced lager, but I'm not really much of a fan of lager's in the first place... so...

I am mildly obsessed with Sam Adams Winter lager right now.
I had one last night and looked at my wife, told her i made a huge mistake buying this the other night. She said why is it not good? I said no, I should have bought the 12 pack.
lol
![]() 12/05/2014 at 10:42 |

Well, there are lots of delicious lagers. Sam Winter isn't one of them. Something about the taste, I just hate it.
In a totally different beer thread, have you tried Delirium (tremens or nocturnum)?

Depending on distance:
Orlando, it sounds like Knightly Spirits is simply THE place in Florida in general for beer shopping.
In Gainesville, it sounds like Wards has a nice selection with a knowledgeable person doing the ordering.
In Lakeland, it looks like Grapevine is the place with the best selection...
Of course, this is based off 10 minutes of internet research from a guy in AZ. =P

Former central Floridian here. Just about any ABC Liquors should have a decent selection.

![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:01 |

I had last years... and holy shit. It's like $25-$30 a bottle, and definitively worth it. And I don't generally buy beers that cost more than $15 / bottle. It is the best Kriek I have ever, ever had.

The Anchor Winter Wheat isn't exactly highbrow stuff either. (pro tip: avoid it, I love anchor... but...)

There's a couple 'Total Wine and More' stores in central FL. They typically have large selections and will order anything that they don't have on the shelves. You can also just shop online and they'll have it ready for pickup.

I haven't. I have been searching high and low, but it disappears quickly, and the last time it landed I had a kid who had just undergone a tonsillectomy and I wasn't going anywhere .

My cousin's husband and a partner are started up a brewery in Chicago. Can't wait to see what they come up with.

The homebrewing is going alright. Only on my 2nd batch of extract, but my buddy and I can't seem to match schedules and brew any more until he's done with his masters program. It's a shame because the temperature of the brew right now is about 52° which is perfect temperature for lagering. I also picked up some hops plants from a local grower, and I'm going to start growing my own hops next spring to add to the beer. The cellar is going to go through a big overhaul in the coming months. I picked up some bricks which will go on the floor to give it an old-world cellar feel, then I'm going to insulate and finish the walls, then build a wine rack for my wife.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:23 |

That's awesome. I need to get back into learning how to... I've managed to turn out alcohol... but nothing I would inflict on anyone else. Practice makes perfect they say... I need a lot more practice.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:24 |

That's awesome. I should think about making an enclosure like that for my beer.

I have another cousin in Maine who does a ton of homebrew. Sadly, I've not yet had the pleasure of tasting any of his.
I'm very content to sample the good work of others at this juncture.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:27 |

I would be too, but everyone I know is in a downcycle at the moment. So I occasionally get out to the (ever growing number of) local breweries, but mostly, since I have kids, dog, family and a job... I mostly stay home and pick up what I can when I am at the local shops.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:28 |

Well I'm here to tell you search a little higher and a little lower. Its worth it. It was on tap one of the times I was there, I didn't get anything else that night.

I've read that with a chest freezer (more insulated than a fridge) you can keep temps relatively stable for storing beers. There's quite a bit of info out there on forums. Or if you're more DIY-inclined, 2" rigid foam is amazing stuff that lends well to creativity
![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:32 |
|
The issue is maintaining a temperature, when ambient temps vary as much as they do here... But yes. 2" rigid foam would likely do wonders with a rack and sealing environment. I may have my next project.

I had to grab myself a New Belgium sampler pack on the way back from Missouri last weekend. They don't sell it in Oklahoma! Been sick all week with a cold, but I'll have to crack one open with lunch today. 1554 perhaps?

Its my favorite brewery, the only one I didn't really like is the Shiner wild hare because i'm not much of an IPA guy. When I drink I like to be refreshed and IPA's always seem dry. Another good brewery is Great Lakes, it isn't available in South Dakota where I am from but I always treat myself when I am in Minneapolis.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:50 |

Beer shops, local breweries (My personal fav way of being "snobbish", lol) and I have a lot of buddies that home-brew.
![]() 12/05/2014 at 11:50 |

Well that actually sounds like a perfect place to use rigid foam! Just make a box out of the foam, make a lid with an extra piece that indexes inside the box, and now you have a way to keep beers at a stable temperature and out of UV light. If temps get too high, just throw a double-zip-lock bag of ice in there to cool it down. As long as you have a table saw or a miter saw and can get straight cuts, that will be a pretty simple project. Just keep in mind that most glue will melt the foam, but a $3.50 bottle of this glue will do the trick nicely. Cheers and keep us updated! (Is there a Beerlopnik?)

All good, Sam Adams my favorite of the 3

I go to school on the west side of Michigan, the backyard of all the great Michigan brewery's. Its a constant struggle between the 6 pack of something good or the 12 pack of something cheap.
Also, if you are ever in Michigan look out for Shorts. One of the best in Michigan but I don't think they ship outside of the state yet.

I've not yet tried either of those, but that fridge looks familiar to me. And since I don't drink Monday-Thursday, I'm happy it's Friday. T-minus 5 hours & 20 minutes to cheers!
