I dunno, a see-thru spare tire cover just strikes me as a tad douchey.
UPDATE: I'm bitter and spiteful, so there's that...

Lighter, still protects the spare if its out in the sun, easier to take off and better looking than a hard cover and ventilated so it wont mildew. Seems spot on to me.

I mean, if you invested in 5 BBS rims for your FJ, I guess it's nice to show 'em off.
I'm probably just jealous. My little donut gives me spare tire envy.

I think its less about showing off and more about protecting stupidly expensive tires (which probably cost more than the rims)

Even more douchey than DDing an F9000 super-dually-diesel you will never take off road or tow anything with?

True. I don't know why people like to mount their spare on a roof rack without any kind of cover. UVs eat that shit up.

now THAT is showing off. I mean, its also a lazy way to get a larger tire than no longer fits inside/in the well out of the way, but for an FJ...that would be 100% show off.

There's a guy who just moved into my apt complex, and he owns a super-clean, lifted VehiCROSS on 32's (maybe? larger than stock), all kitted out for offroad... and he has an uncovered spare on the roof rack.
I mean, he needs to put that massive tire somewhere, and it won't fit under the stock spare cover, but dude...

Hey don't bash it before you try it.

At least it's protecting the spare, and looks better than traditional spare covers, IMO.

I've always felt that way about license plate covers.

He just wants everyone to know that his spare has a matching alloy wheel, not some cheap steely POS. At least it's not a chrome wheel cover on the ouside of the cover to add bling, now that would be douchey.

Duallys aren't for going off road

Duallys are for increased stabilization when carrying heavy loads, a thing you will need no matter what surface you are towing/carrying things on. Duallys go wherever the load needs them too, and are taken off road all the time.
