I take it this post is inspired by the "alleged-rarity-equals-my-absurd-value" Craigslist brigade?

THIS
for some reason it's impossible to find truly good later-model year NAs by me with these qualifications for sale.

that's the main reason I ended up going with an NB

Here it's not that hard to find clean examples or manuals but completely unmodified ones are almost impossible to find.
Edit: I may have to eat my words.

My '97 was clean, only had 55,000 original one owner miles, but alas it did not meet the third requirement. Wisconsin winters had ravaged the hearty shell, and bits of rust began to rear their ugly heads...everywhere!!! The horror!

Then you find that one on ebay and the dude always wants like 15 grand for it.

Mine 96'll be for sale in Spring. 75k miles, no rust, just needs stock wheels (and stock top/antenna if you're real picky) to meet your criteria.

But if I found a clean, low mileage NA, I'd feel guilty about making it a track rat! That's the lure of the NA, find em old and abused enough to easily and inexpensively make a canyon carver/track car without feeling bad. I wouldn't spend "good" money on an NA, but I only got mine because I wanted a cheap and easy to work on vehicle that wouldn't sap all of my time.

The ones with the 1.8 are far more robust, it doesn't matter how many miles on them.
Yes they are difficult to find and command a premium, but it's worth the investment.

The NA is also much better looking. The NBs look kinda awkward

This is also a major factor. NAs are much better looking in my opinion.

I met my criteria by going with an NB instead of an NA. Found one with 39k miles a couple months ago.
