On to ranting. If someone does not know, at the very least, the general operating basics of DNS then that person should not be making quick 'n dirty PowerShell scripts to inject hundreds of records into reverse lookup on a PDC.

If someone is unwilling to ask anyone to QC their script, they should accept the ramifications themselves. Not ask for help after inserting hundreds of IPs with five octets. How the hell did you get five octets?

Then after all that fuckery is fixed, go ahead and sit there and joke about ..."seeing a lot of duplicate A records pointing to different servers..."

God I just want to fix it. Can't though :(

True story.

When I was in grad school for CS we were writing UNIX scripts for process handling. We had a dedicated server to bomb around on, but since we were all doing the same project one of the guys decided to use a different one with less traffic.

He wrote a script doing recursive forking and made a classic mistake in the conditional logic (I want to say it was the if x = y vs. if x ==y deal). It took off like a fucking rocket and locked up the server he was on.

Which was the university's mail server.

The IT department was SUPER PISSED OFF since it knocked the server down for hours.

I don't have a copy of the emails that got sent out very shortly afterward, but one was our professor cancelling the assignment (which we framed and gave to the guy at graduation) and the second was from the dean to all CS students telling us to never work on anything but the development server.
