The digital tach in my Mazda 323 GTX is just weird. The scale is not consistent whatsoever! In the same increments, the scale goes like this:
0
1
1.5
2
2.5
3
4
5
6
8
Share any particularly peculiar tachs you know about in the comments!

I got an A4 loaner recently. The Speedometer has a constant interval until 100mph, and then it covers the next 80mph in the same gap it did 50 before.

I don't know, I think all Tachymeters are weird

Not my car, but look at this speedometer!

I can imagine a mechanical basis that would produce this tach scale, oddly enough. A rod-linked connection to a dial on a clock spring, and some other weirdness. A reason for a digital scale to do that? No idea, unless they were copying an existing mechanical one or thought it was important to have precision between 1k and 3k for shifts.

Does the turbo icon do anything when it spools up?

That dash looks entirely too American to have values in kmh.

I know a bit about this one!
Not terribly funky, actually a quite useful dash. Also available on the 86-87.5 4000 and Coupe GT in red

The funniest thing there *is* actually the tach. Sure, the speedometer is rotating like a prop, but the redline crosses from "bad" at 4500 to "bad bad" at 5000 and continues on for another 2000rpm. WHY WOULD WE NEED THAT MUCH PRECISION IN SUICIDE? I know, tuning and reworking the powertrain, it's nice to have a tach which will track it, but a full 2000 RPM of WTF ARE YOU DOING all demarcated normally is deranged.

That's a neat solution to the mph/kph conundrum!

Not an unusual arrangement on Tachometers and Speedometers...
The idea is to provide greater detail on the low speed/rpm range where the vehicle/engine spends most of its time.

The digital gauges were an option on the GTX. The normal analog tach in the GTX is linear. Mazda purposely changed up the scale on the digital tach. It's weird, but I like it. It adds some character.

Not the most useful thing in the world.

It sure does. There are five sections to it, and they illuminate as the turbo spools. Here's a photo of the dash with everything lit up.

For sure. The scale just changes so much! Not sure why going from 6000 to 8000 was necessary with a 6500rpm redline.

Where is the tach on this one? Is it the round instrument to the right of the speedometer? Or is that a clock? lol

On the left. On the right is a clock.

Also of note:
For drag racing, of course.

I love my TIC-TOK-TAC, one year only option, clock doesn't work of course. I like how older techs were x100

How interesting! What car is this on? Do you have another photo from further back to show the rest of the dash?

Not a specific scale like yours (and not as nice), but still a fun digital tach of 80's :
Citroen BX Digit, note the mono spoke steering wheel.

Excellent! The perspective in your first photo was throwing me off; it looked like the tach was on the end of a convex bulb of some sort, but now I see it's sunken down into the dash :)

digital dashes are so damn cool, as an early nineties child I cannot resist them. they came right before my time so the novelty factor really does it for me. they are all so different and very ridiculous... your turbo gauge is incredible, so 80s!!

This GTX is just one year older than I am, so I am right there with you!
