More people use these around the world to go to dangerous places than Jeeps, so...

SUVs and off-roaders aren't normally what floats my boat (although I can certainly appreciate them). But I would love to own a first-gen Range Rover. Can't quite explain why.
Also awesome: That particular one (YVB 153H) was one of the pre-production demonstrators built in December 1969, all of which survive. It's awesome to see it in its natural habitat!

You're thinking of a land cruiser.

You say least reliable but I notice a distinct lack of Land Cruiser in this shot. Also as it turns out not all Suzukis will roll over.

Truth. My mom worked for an oil company in central Africa for years and they used Range Rovers. Then they discovered the Toyota Land Cruiser and never looked back. They always ran!

I thought this was the military rangie that popped up for sale recently. Nice to know that!

This:
Has more power than its peers
Has a nicer cabin than its peers
Is as simple to work on as a 1950s Chevy Pickup
Looks better than its peers.
While I can appreciate other enthusiasts love for LC's and other "reliable" off roaders, I despise the constant degradation of the Land Rover history. The reliability "issues" typically occur from mall-cruising, pumpkin spice latte sipping suburban elitists who buy these purely as a status symbol. Which they are fine to do, however Land Rover should approach this like Porsche did. Build an SUV (Cayenne, Macan) so that they can continue to make enthusiast vehicles.
The fact that the high priced and ridiculously loaded Range Rovers and LRs exist should also create a financial situation in which they can build and sell updated Defenders and Series LRs for people who tread the unbeaten path.

She had a blast doing it. We have so much crazy $h*t from Africa you wouldn't believe it - she always brought back tons, from masks to ottomans and tables.

Oh, I know those too. But that is part of how LR became so big.
