Been doing this since boot camp. Had the bedding I actually slept with folded up in a drawer (with a lock on it of course) and the 2 sheets, and blanket and pillow perfectly folded to standards and ziptied or bootbanded to the bunk. Never failed a field day inspection.

Sometimes this needs to be done. Sometimes the circumstances are too crazy to explain.

I did the same thing in AIT. I had a foot locker I kept locked under the bed with a Pillow and blanket. I went one further, I also used Leather Luster on my Cochran IIs. I was always getting exempted from things for having the shiniest boots.

Hahaha, YUT!!!
That is old school, much respect brother. Both unfortunately and fortunately I served in the era of coyote brown suede Bates. Although my first deployments to Iraq netted me a few pairs of tan suede old school Altama combat jungle boots.
I got exempted from a bunch of shit for being the regimental photographer on an as needed basis. I was my Colonel's radioman as well as the assistant data comms chief and webmaster in my first unit. After that my life changed when I became an FO.
