...you have a Triumph GT6 powered by a Saab turbo 4?
You are some kind of god.

Alas not, but it's first on the list of projects to be attempted after I've finished my Spit6 that I'm working on at the moment :)
The whole idea is based on the fact that Saab developed their slant 4 engine from the Triumph Slant 4, and with a little modification any early engines should hook up to any of the gearboxes fitted to Triumph Slant-4 engines :)

Cool :) any pics? I absolutely love GT6s, but was having difficulty justifying buying one when I'll have a straight 6 Spitfire as well. Now, with my nutty Saab turbo idea I can have both!

It's in pretty rough shape. All my money goes to flying so haven't had money to work on it.

Neat :) doesn't look like an utter rustbucket, which is always nice :) doesn't look as pretty as it should of course.
Flying? Is that pilots licence and little Cessna-type thing or microlites or commercial planes? Pretty damn cool if you ask me :)

Working on my commercial rating. So still small planes.
It was a barn car. The wife wanted it gone so the husband pushed it out to side of road. Drove by it and made my husband turn around and go back so I could buy it. :)

Kickass :) if only I could find the same thing I'd do it in a second. They're a little more highly valued here than over in the US, although not by enough to make importing one worth the premium :(

Love the idea, is it only the B-engines that are compatible or would the H-series work as well? I know the t5'd H-engines can make some silly horsepower (~250+) with nothing more than plumbing, and you can probably hit 400hp before needing to tear down the block. Would make for one quick triumph. The stock ecu is fully tunable on those motors, which is a nice plus also.

...ok that's ludicrous. You'd be looking at at least £1500 over here, if not £2000. I wonder how much shipping costs. It would be rather easy to find the bits to convert it to RHD...

I've looked at those too :) they changed the bellhousing pattern I think, but I'm not sure what year. They might bolt up to the LT77 'box, but if not people have used the GM R28 'box from 3.0l Vauxhall Omegas before so that would be an option. They changed it from slanted to fully upright for the H-Series so it would be a lot taller in the engine bay, but you may be able to mount it lower in-between the rails of the GT6 chassis so it would clear. From people's rough measurements it's not overly different in height to the GT6's 6-cylinder, and a little shorter, so it certainly looks possible.
I've also looked at a couple of forums and you can hit 270bhp before having to change anything major in the revvier B204 2.0l, and 300bhp in the longer-stroke B234 2.3l. If you find one from a 9000 Aero with the beefier Mitsubishi turbo you would be looking at 320bhp before having to upgrade things like injectors and fuel pumps and whatnot :) Internals on both I've been told can hold out to ~500bhp.
Loads of potential :)

Could wind up cheaper :) depending on the premium between a nice one in the States and a nice one over here :)

The early H's are slants also, as found in the classic 900 - B201/B202/B212. I don't know when or if the bellhousing changed, though those motors did use an odd chain-drive in the c900. More importantly though is that the slanted blocks from ~74 till 93/94 are (mostly) compatible with the later T5/T7 heads. I believe they all have forged internals also. Only catch is that the T5/7 heads are a touch shorter, so the timing cover or head requires some slight modification to plug a gap but otherwise they bolt right on. So horsepower potential + packaging.
And if that wasn't enough, I believe the early slanted blocks with a custom oil pan (necessary anyway) are compatible with the B234 rotating assemblies. No replacement for displacement :)

It would be a B202 that I would like to fit to the GT6 ideally. You could get scary power out of the later engines, but I'd prefer it to be a bit more usable on the street and have a cooler old-school look to the valve cover. I have heard that the later B204 and B234 have different deck heights to the early ones, so you could probably swap internals but you'd have to do some fangling to get compression ratios right and such. Would be a kickass idea though :)
That chain drive thing on the B202 would probably be tricky. They've got the gearbox in the sump which is probably why they've got that. Hopefully not insurmountable though :)

Hi Dr Frankenstein
Is this still in you mind ? So I have some basic drawings to make a rear engine Plate - to LT 77 Gearbox. If you go for the B202 “Engine best evolution” from Triumph-Ricardo engine. No water-pump problem and ignition can be DI so the distributor ist no Problem. You could use the TR7 -Dolomite ore the Saab 9000 -B202 Oilpan - (yes this Model had an oilpan) and the same B202 Engine. As far you are in UK you have no problems with the steering rack and you can use an 9000-B202 Manifold ore one of the newer B204,234 or2035 Manifold this have different angles. The inlet-Manifold has to be modified - but it is possible - take an 2.1l best size - if you go for a T7 Head there is a converter flange Nr. 9185844. The Cam-coverer are interchangeable - so you can use the old style. There ore some other point to do .. The B204-234 from 94 up are great but pretty high, but you could use the Vauxhall-Getrag 265 ore an Ford type 9 gearbox (with Conversions Bell) Fazit to have an old style look the B202 is the way to go ..

Hey :) that’s all really helpful information thanks! It is still on the cards, and I’ve actually got the bodyshell it’ll be going in, but it’s a little ways off being started yet :S
Invaluable info you’ve got there though :) definitely thanks!
