Holy crap! The Fiat dealer just got in a 4C. I didn't think I would ever have a reason to stop by there, but now I think I will have to make a detour on my way home.

Yep, saw the one that was delivered to Helfmann Fiat in Houston on Saturday. God it was so gorgeous, and it was number 19 to roll off the line. I still think they would be dead sexy in black but that red is really something else. Top notch paint. Also P-Zeros.

I haven't read anything on this issue and don't know if it's already been discussed, but what are other people's thoughts on the potential impact of selling the 4C out of Fiat dealerships?

Aside the dealerships needing to have personnel trained in service, I don't know that there are many downsides of having them sold through Fiat dealers. This was the original plan and many dealers were upset when there was talk of selling them through Maserati dealers but now that most of the authorized dealers are Fiat, I think everyone's fairly happy. We'll see how things go when they inevitably need warranty work but I think the Fiat dealers are just happy to have people coming through the doors.

2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition Coupe

Model : 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C

Engine size : 1.7L

Horsepower : 237 HP

Torque : 258 lb-ft

Curb weight : 2,465 lbs

MPG : 24 city / 34 highway

MSRP : $68,400

Transmission : 6 Speed Automatic

I wish them luck, they have a lot of competition at that price point. Nice looking ride though

I understand that they are taking bids. I don't think there will be a problem selling this one at least.

I wasn't even thinking of the implications for servicing them, I'm glad you mentioned that.

My primary concern was if it would negatively impact sales. Obviously almost all of the people who will buy the first ones over here already know about the car and will go find it. This just reminds me of the stories like Ford selling Merkurs out of Lincoln–Mercury dealerships and not being able to sell any of them because the people there were shopping for Lincolns and Mercuries. Perhaps in 2014 this effect is mitigated by all the research that can be done before visiting the dealership.

There's also the example of Hyundai and the Equus, wherein buyers are turned off because the dealership experience isn't comparable to the car's competitors.

I really don't know what will happen, and I hope this car does well. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

I don't see it impacting car sales because the 4C is more of a Halo car than the run of the mill coupe and sedan. Anyone who goes into a Fiat dealership and buys a 4C isn't buying it by accident. It's like the Corvette in a number of ways, people don't go into a Chevy dealership browse around and settle on a Corvette. You might get up sold from a Camaro to a Corvette but regardless, to me the intention is sportscar. The 4C doesn't compete with any of Fiat's other product line either.

I think the dealerships are expecting the 4C to draw people in to come and look at, the "oohs and ahhs" if you will, but while they're there, try to sell them a Fiat. Or maybe middle aged guy that goes in to see the new shiny gets sold on a Fiat for his children. Who knows?

As far as dealership experience, we'll see. I put in a request for more information (email) and Chrysler customer service called me within an hour and the dealership emailed me in about a half an hour. Price wise, the 4C is in the same neighborhood as a good variety of sports cars so it may be worth comparing.

I put in a request for information at the local Fiat/Alfa dealer and got a call and an email from Chrysler and the dealership (respectively) within an hour.

We have a very small Fiat dealership here in Corpus Christi. It appears they are going to be serviced through a Chrysler service facility. I can imagine that this will have some growing pains associated with it. Here's hoping they get at least one mechanic who is competent with the Alfa.
