My mom's brother. He rarely visits, but when he does, you can hear him coming quite a ways away. His truck, the beast, is a 1996-1999 Chevy Suburban LT 2500 4x4 with the 6.5 liter turbo diesel. I believe it was not only the last diesel Suburban, but the last diesel full-sized SUV for those not wanting to suffer the scorn that comes with driving a Ford Excursion. The 'Burban sounds like a Union Pacific locomotive running straight pipes, but apparently, with the upgraded tranny, axle, and suspension (can you tell I know a lot about these trucks?) it will haul or tow pretty much anything over or though any obstacle. Oh, and it has steelies and barn-doors. I figured there are some people on here who will appreciate a truck like that, or at least know more about it than me, so I figured I'd share. The above is not an actual SR20, but it's identical.

It will tow it, but not quickly.

It won't go quickly when it's not towing.

I figured it must be a fairly durable truck. It is from the "Like a rock" era, after all. And yeah, the interior is shit.

They weren't know for their speed, but some people have made them semi-powerful.

When I think of old Suburban I can only remember this:
I can't explain how much I wanted one of these after seeing the Twister movie. Even more a 1997 Ram.

I had my '86 K2500 at 340,000 miles but the floor rotted out from under it. One tough bastard of a truck, always ALWAYS pulled through. I swapped the anemic 350 for a Buick 455, then a 500" cad motor. The 500" was the right engine for that truck, could pull anything anywhere anytime.

I'd love to find one of these. I'd even take a tree fiddy powered one. But they are all beat to death and/or full of holes around here.
Go easy on the interiors, they may seem shitty today but the GMT400 interors were leaps and bounds above the old C/K trucks.

His is actually in good shape. Obviously it's a work truck, but zero rust and minimal dings/scratches.
I don't care much about the interior. They're old work trucks, not Bentleys.

I love those! I personally prefer the lift gate/tail gate combo to the barn doors.
You can narrow down that model year range by looking at the dashboard. If the passenger side dips down and has a shelf, its a '95-'96. If it has a second hump for a passenger side air bag, its a '97-'99.
