In the latest of some funny shit, three Louisville, KY men attempted to carjack a man at a local Kroger. After rolling the car backward for ten yards, the men got out, yelled to the victim "sorry dear sir, we are not familiar with the workings of your transmission", and fled the scene.
The three losers are all in custody for this and other crimes, where they are being unmercifully beaten. Not really, they are just facing several charges.

Who's saving who?

Manuel is the hero America deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

Seems like a theft deterrent now, but what if one gets mad, points a gun at you and tells you to drive? That'd suck majorly.

Yeah, but a typical carjacker isn't really ready to commit to abduction, and additional gun chargers usually. Their more in it for a quick buck.

Then why not hot-wire a car and steal it that way? Car jackings can be incredibly violent.

OEM security measures have gotten too good.
Your more professional thieves are skilled in the ways of code cloning and immobilizer disablement. Car jackers can barely spell car or jack.
'96 Accords just don't bring in the cash they use to. If you want something that will actually bring in some chop shop dough, you're going to need the keys.
Although, I hadn't followed the link until just now. These guys appear to have been looking for a drive by vehicle, so they are probably at the extreme end of the violence scale. Still no confrontation, though.

All valid points to which I agree with.
