I know I'm new to rallycross and all but I have a feeling I may be a bit over-equipped. Of course now the pressure is on me to perform better than such exotic metal as old golfs and proteges.....I have a feeling my FiST, slayer of BMW 3-series and 911 turbos on pavement might suffer at the hands of the rustbuckets on dirt. Also, paging K-roll, I am going and I paid for registration for the Thistle Hill event.

What's a Ford Proscort? Did they mean Escort?

Slay them for great Oppo glory. But said glory only comes if pictures or maybe go pro-esqe footage is received
(And PLEASE just blow the doors of the Slowbalt for me especially, mine has been nothing more than trouble haha.)

I think the difference here is that they probably give even less than a fuck about their car.

I think that in Rallycross it's more about how much damage are you willing to take before it hurts than anything else. I wouldn't expect any of the cars on the roster to be pristine examples and none of the drivers to behave as if they were on a Sunday stroll.
Pedal to the metal driving and paint trade is what I would expect... and that Rallycross glory requires an automotive sacrifice, that's the edge they would have.
This is all guessing that you are not going to run that 2014 FiST like it was stolen.

Mazda Protege/Ford Escort

Definitely. I intend to tape up the side a bit but other than that, I don't have much in the way of rally prep so I will be at a slower rate of speed.

Never heard it called that before. Thanks.

Well this is SCCA rallycross so its timed runs, not wheel to wheel. And no, this is my first ever rallycross so definitely NOT driving it at 10/10ths......But man, if I had the balls and skill for that.....

More importantly what is a Fazda Proscort?

Well I regularly stuff SSlobalts on the asphalt autocrosses, I would like to slay them on dirt too. We'll see how balls-out that driver goes as stock cobalts have a high ride height and some decent travel. Should allow for aggressive application of throttle and a general "Don't care" attitude.
HOWEVER! If there is a decent amount of snow that falls, the course will be flattened out a little and I should be good for more speed.

Ah, timed runs, that's way better and more manageable for you car's health.

Apparently it's a Mazda Protege crossed with a Ford Escort.

I'm sure that the torque steer will take out most of the cobalts honestly. Like holy hell its bad

Hmm, interesting. I wonder what that'd look like.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 21:56 |

Yeah it is almost impossible to find wheel to wheel racing that does not have a rollcage and harness and race seat requirements for entry. But timed runs on autocross and rallycross tracks very rarely require them for stock classes. WHen it is difficult to exceed 60 mph, I would hope that the car meant to keep you safe in a 60 mph crash would be sufficient when you wear a helmet and seat belt. Oh and for that same reason, you're not allowed to tamper or remove the airbags in the stock classes.

Same chassis, potentially the same engine, many other parts are interchangeable.

Hmm, never realized they were basically the same car.

News to me too.

Here's a simple formula to determine your success in rally cross.
(Performance of car ÷ how much the owner cares about their car) x driver skill = race performance

I have enough painters tape and cardboard to protect the paint. I should be okay. I should be able to lower my fear of hurting the think. Plus if silvestro-san does it all the time, I should be good.

PAGING MR. SILVESTRO. MR. SILVESTRO, YOU ARE NEEDED IN THIS THREAD.
He should be able to give you the insight into rallying a FiST

Ah, the Fazda Prescort, always a favorite.

Yeah I've seen his posts. Hopefully he doesn't respond with "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T!!!!!"

I HOPE HE DOESN'T IT WOULDN'T BODE WELL FOR EITHER OF US
But he's totally gonna say do it.

My dad used to run a '72 Celica in SCCA Wheel to Wheel racing. (No cage/harness/any safety requirements). He said it was great fun for a while, but then some guys started racing I am their daddies' BMW's. He said they were willing to total their car because it would just be fixed for them. He, on the other hand, had to drive his to work and school. So he left after taking 7th at the championship.

Yeah that was also probably 20+ years ago.

Since it's gold, it can't be an SS. Should be pretty easy to blow it's doors off in most anything. hehe.

Since it's gold, it can't be an SS. So then it has even more monster truck ride height going for it, but less power and a worst suspension than the SS's.
