I personally throw it in neutral, go over the bump and stick it in second once I'm over the bump. I personally find it easier than downshifting from probably third. (I was told about this by a Spanish taxi driver, Haha.)

Shift down to second and leave it there the full way over the bump.

Clutch in, once the front wheels are over, gas and clutch out. There is no real reason to do this but sometimes driving is boring and you need a game.

I gotta think about this one. Don't remember if I ever drove a stick car over a speed bump. I would probably cost up to it then put it in 1st and go over.

If in a speed bump zone I'd drop down from third to second gear and then simply ease off the accelerator on closer approach to the bump and then ease back on again after clearing it and stay in second gear if the next one isn't too far away or put it back into third and repeat the procedure on seeing the next bump. If I know the road and know there is only one bump and know how big it is from experience then I'd stay in third and just ease off the accelerator 100 metres prior to is and then accelerator once over it.

That's what I do. Cause I go VERY slow over speed bumps. 2nd would be too high of a gear

Depends on the car. My old Audi allroad never wanted first unless you were stopped, so I'd clutch in, downshift to second (provided I wasn't in second already), roll over the bump, then clutch out and by on my way. The Corvair likes downshifts into first and lacks bottom end torque, so I'd do the same thing but with first. I always seem to coast over the bumps, though I've heard people say you should accelerate over them; the theory being that since you're accelerating, the weight of the car is transferred to the rear and it makes it smoother when the front tires go over. Just feels really weird to do it.

Roll over in second, slightly letting off clutch depending if it's a street bump or a parking lot bump.

The ST is a close-ratio gearbox, so I could leave it in 2nd, but why would I?

Funny, I haven't thought about speed bumps. I haven't driven over one yet since I started manual 3 weeks ago. I'll keep these comments in mind!

I try to keep enough speed to let the suspension do it's thing (15 to 20 mph usually low third gear), so my whole vehicle doesn't go up and down with the rise of the speed bump. Speed is my friend, unless it's abused, then it just wants to hurt me back.

Second gear, clutch in at first contact with speed bump, when the front wheels clear, clutch out and throttle.

Leave it in whatever gear I was in and only slow down as traffic necessitates. Speed bumps are evil devices and slowing down just fulfills their evil purpose. Bear in mind I've never owned a car that didn't have generous amounts of ground clearance.

if it's in a parking lot, I leave it in first. My car has enough torque that I can clutch out without giving it gas and it'll crawl over the bump on it's own. Otherwise clutched in over the first half, 2nd over the second half.

First gear, usually put the clutch in and hit the brakes too if I feel I'm going too fast.

I don't really have a special procedure for speed bumps, and I go over them quite often. I just select the gear that's appropriate for the speed I'm going at, and how much power/control I feel is necessary for whatever I'm doing, and go over the speed bump. I've never thought to myself, 'Oh, speed bump, better go for third.'
Have I been doing it wrong all this time?

2nd is just where my car likes to be between 10-20mph and I've never seen a speedbump I couldn't take between those speeds. Not really a premeditated thing like "oh heres a speedbump I'll go to 2nd" its just where I go to naturally when I slow down.

Most of the time, I just leave it in fourth - my cruising gear at thirty - and go right on over. If I have to go down a gear, I just pick whichever one feels appropriate for the speed I'm going at—I've never developed a special technique for speed bumps specifically. If I have to go over one from a standstill, I'll generally stay in first until I crest it, and then shift to second, though that's only based on how my engine sounds/what the revs are doing/how much power I need, and changes with different designs of bump.

That's pretty much it for me, too, though I tend to be going at about thirty. There's a road of fairly mild speed bumps between my house and the local Sainsbury's/McDonalds/Subway/Retail Nightmare, and I've never really felt the need to slow down significantly going over any of them. They're the kind with a gentle slope, a raised flat area, and then another gentle slope down.

My car has a fairly low nose and most of the speed bumps around here would rip the oil pan off if you took them at more than 15mph. I rarely encounter a bump I could take at more than 20mph without causing serious damage. The people who design the roads must be nicer where you live.

It depends how big the bump is, how fast I'm going, and which vehicle I'm in, lol

If you don't have to get out of the car, put a pair of wooden boards over the bump and get over them slightly sideways, your car isn't lowered enough.

If the car's not in gear, you can't accelerate just as you get to the bump to lift the front of the car up. Best to leave it in gear, slow down plenty before the speedbump, and then just goose the gas slightly as you're about to hit it.

Mostly we have the tables and the humps that don't go all the way across the road, which aren't so bad, but I always wear through suspension parts. I found they are smoother at 40, but 50 is a bit dicey.
jkm7680

We have either tables or the really thin ones, the tables are massive though. Only smoother on two wheels, or at 1 mph.
