get one with a turbo engine.

It seems that these are pretty hard to come by (turbo or any other engine). A while ago I tried searching them from couple different places on Craigslist and found one ad without pictures.
I don't know if it would be worth the money spent on importation process anyway.

it seems like most are either scrapped, or the owners are holding onto them dearly.

I can't remember the last time I saw one of these. I'm pretty sure they're all dead.

They were practically designed from the ground up to be disposable. When we're the old farts at Mecum and Barrett Jackson these will be some of the rarest cars to go across the block.

exactly!
I was riding in one when it started to self-destruct. It was very scary

No you don't! It's literally one of the worst cars ever made. They were great when new. But they completely fell apart after certain number of miles. They were probably worse than the first gen Taurus

No, no you don't.
Why?
Rust. Mitsu engines. The finest malaise era materials.
