What are your thoughts, Oppo?
I played a bunch over Thanksgiving, I can't quite figure it out. I got to level 8, and enjoyed the exploration and the combat.
However, I detest the Strike missions, and reading about the Glass Vault Raid makes me cringe. That's not fun. Spending 3 hours failing miserably in the hope of getting some trinket that you can only, maybe get if you complete this hell-trial is not my idea of fun.
I'm sure it would be better if you are playing with a group of friends you know, but my XBL list isn't that large. I don't really like the idea of playing with a bunch of random people. My tolerance for immaturity is very low, and there is far too much of that out in the wilds on XBL.
Am I over-thinking the game? Am I too old (Damn Kids. Get off my lawn!)?

Best 5/10 this year.

It plays nicely but I've found the story missions to be pretty repetitive. PVP is pretty fun though.

I've played it way too much. I have the gear to get to level 30, now grinding for materials. I play with a good friend from home, and that's made it a lot better. That aside, I like playing games I can get lost in, GTA, Skyrim, etc. so this is right up my alley.
I have cleared the raid in a little over an hour, my friend claims he's done it in 40 minutes, it all depends on how competent and committed your team is. The only issue I have with Strikes is they get pretty dry, pretty fast. Waiting for the DLC to see if there's a boost in context.
I applaud Bungie for undertaking such a tedious project, but I'll admit the game is lacking in its story and customization. Most of the video game community is centered around instant gratification, you'll read a lot of complaints on the most nit-picky of things.

I don't have a problem with having to do those strikes and raids, only that they are deliberately insanely difficult.
I played GoW3 for a bit with some friends. We tried multiple times to beat this huge boss level, and when we finally did it, we completely lost interest in the game. There is no point to anything being that difficult. It does not lead to a sense of satisfaction or accomplishment.
I play to have fun. I enjoy RPGs because I can get lost in them. It feels like Bungie got lost as they made the game. It wants to be several types of games, but it's not very good at any of them.
You can't really explore because there are too many enemies, and they wall off parts of the game with invincible guards. The loot system isn't very generous. I'm not saying you should be tripping over loot, but there is room for more without making it a gold-mine.
The shooting is okay. It's not bad, but it's not as good as Halo. The AI is not that good. Halo is far better in that regard.
Why build so many social aspects into the game, and then not do anything with them. They could have forced the differing ecosystems to finally communicate between them, allowing for cross-platform game play. If anyone has the clout to make that happen it would be Bungie. How awesome would it be to play the same game with people on Playstations and PCs while you're on XBL?

I both agree and disagree.
There are parts that are way better than only a 5/10. But overall, it leaves you wanting so it gets a middling score.
