So, my air filter isn't doing its job...

Well, nothing is wrong with the filter, but the box it lives in is screwed up. It's held in by four clamps; the two in the front are aluminum, but the ones in the back are basically made of rust. As such, mine no longer exist, so the top of the air box isn't sitting flush, and that means some air is getting through on the wrong side of the filter.

I'm going to go get some new clamps from the junkyard soon, but for now, yeah. It's fun discovering all the parts of my car that will fail no matter how well you take care of them......

I had a similar problem, one edge of the airbox wasnt sealing so rainwater was leaking in and soaking the filter. Tightened it and duct taped the edges. Mint.

Yeah, I'm going to try binder clips in the meantime, and I'll have them looped onto something somewhere so they won't damage anything if they fall off.

I'll be getting a new air filter to fix mine due to the unique (rubbish) way fiat design parts the airbox seal is part of the air filter so if your filter is slightly out of spec it'll leak.

Never thought of using binder clips to hold the airbox tight though, might be stealing that one the next time I'm bodging a car together with whatever I have in the garage.

Yeah, they just seem so perfect for the job! I only worry that they might slip off since they have no grip on them, but I suppose that could be fixed with some rubber bands and superglue or something like that.

Could do what I did to make my oversized bike light mount fit, cut some strips off an old wallet and glue them on.
